If your family racists have acknowledged that there is a connection between federal policy and things they don't like even in this hedging sort of way, then they are ahead of many in critical reasoning/capacity for shame (unfortunately)
Some economics and finance journals do pay reviewers who submit their reviews promptly. This is funded by charging the authors a submission fee.
State capacity challenge--do you support a sprawling tech stack, at massive scale, with catastrophic security unknown-unknowns and desktop environments that somehow combine the worst of backwards compatibility and massive changes from version to version, or do you switch to Linux
Getting a PhD and then working outside academia is dope. My advisees who’ve done that are more or less uniformly happy and feel that they’re using the skills they trained on. (I talked to one today who just landed a great gig). Just wanted to convey that to anyone it might benefit.

After a few hours of work, I succeeded in coding something that would probably have taken an LLM less than a minute. But am I sure it will work correclty this way? No. But do I have a deeper understanding of my own code? Also no. BUT am I proud to have created it from my own reasoning? No
This video of a Ukrainian Yak-52 crew taking down drones with a shotgun is incredible, but the music is deeply, and profoundly inappropriate. There was really only one option. So I've fixed it.
You can see on schedule I that they spent $2M on a grant to the Associated Press for "GLOBAL RELIGION JOUARNALISM" (sic)

In 2024 The Conversation had 8.3M in revenue and 7.8M in expenses and paid $0 to writers. Is that really ok with you?

when I'm in a good mood it's actually hilarious to me that Elsevier has inadvertently devised a better password manager evasion system than I think I could imagine if I tried

Can you blame them? Nothing like some sick beets
I don't know... (1) People who have pied-a-tierres that they don't live in are either not residents of NYC for tax purposes, or are probably those who could most easily spend a few more days outside the city to avoid income tax; (2) the taxed thing (NYC real estate) is immobile
On no, this problem never even occurred to me!
what’s funny about this is that tarantino wrote this “ezekiel 25:17“ for the film. it isn‘t actually in the bible. publicwitness.wordandway.org/p/hegseth-bo...
Early signs are that LA28 is also going to be a ticketing disaster.
Cities hosting these events should start putting ticketing rules into their contracts
Probably doesn't help that FIFA went with the jankiest, opaquest, most rent-extracting ticket sales system ever devised by humankind

Also, while a professional web page linking to your published papers is great, you *also need preprints*. Don't make begging Elsevier for a PDF a barrier between readers and your work. Put the preprint *and* the link to the final version.
My guess as someone from Springfield is that they are trying to count Dartmouth and Yale as part of some broader intellectual watershed

Visas for international students were down 40% last summer, thanks to a slew of policies designed to throttle visa issuances and scare off students. Students from 40 countries are now outright banned.
Devastating: Hampshire College is permanently closing following the Fall 2026 Semester. A beautiful institution & community that has done so much for so many. My child is a current Hampshire senior. Hampshire's approach to education is so unique, humane, & exciting—I've seen it first hand. Tragic
When you add it all up, the collapse in immigration looks like this: a decline of roughly 50K for illegal (even including the people arrested and not released) and a decline of about 132K for legal. Over 70% of the cut in immigration has come from LEGAL immigration.
