I think our society really is grossly underestimating how important visible accountability is for social cohesion.

May we re-learn this lesson.

Critical Atlantic current significantly more likely to collapse than thought Scientists say finding is ‘very concerning’ as collapse would be catastrophic for Europe, Africa and the Americas

"Rahmstorf, who has studied the Amoc for 35 years, has said a collapse must be avoided 'at all costs'. 'I argued this when we thought the chance of an Amoc shutdown was maybe 5%, and even then we were saying that risk is too high, given the massive impacts. Now it looks like it’s more than 50%.'"

It is genuinely surreal to watch both the U.S. and Britain decide to destroy their own world-renowned and extremely profitable university systems at the same time.

I too have written about white conservatives in southern state legislatures rushing through bullshit changes to the law just to thwart the advancement of literally one black man, but I'm a historian who writes about the Jim Crow era South and not a reporter discussing current fucking events there.

ICE has targeted & detained a CT high school student, who entered legally & has no criminal record. His father, Zia, was an interpreter for U.S. troops in Afghanistan.

This is a clear display of ICE's outrageous, misguided priorities & why I’m fighting for total reform.

I don't know how to explain to the people who pop up when creatives complain about "AI" to say there are legit uses for it just how much they sound like someone saying "Well actually fire is used to make bread" when people are talking about an organized arson ring burning down their fucking houses

There is something profoundly alienating about living with the imminent prospect of inevitable atrocity. Unable to not take seriously the possibility, unable to stop it, and laundry still needs to be done.

Spectacles of Violence, Narratives of Empire: Alexander & the Branchidai YouTube video by Let's Talk Alexander the Great & Ancient Macedonia

Summary of a chapter I wrote that I'd promised to discuss. Why did Alexander annihilate an entire people who'd surrendered to him? What might he have thought he was doing? Looks at religious motivations in ancient warfare. #blueskyancient #ancientbluesky #classicsbluesky #alexanderthegreat

The contrast is sad. Local church runs a culturally appropriate food pantry 4xs a year, no ID asked, guests allowed to choose their own food just like shopping (granted dignity) ... church can barely pay the light bill. No show, just service. Megachurches = big show, and all show, no service.
