We are delighted to announce that @pimientoc.bsky.social will be giving this year's Darwin Day Lecture. Her talk on the causes and consequences of extinctions in the oceans will be held on 11 February in GKT1 from 4-5pm. This will be followed by cheese and wine in the Zoology Museum. All welcome.

We reconstructed the 145-myr diversity of sharks & rays using deep learning, unveiling hidden patterns:
- modern diversity levels by the Cretaceous π
- small decline in the K/Pg π€
- a peak in the Eocene π
- a long-term decline towards the present οΏ½

Very proud of @kristinakocakova.bsky.social's work, just published OA in Proceedings B. We found new extinction events amongst sharks and rays and negative age-dependency, which was persistent through time, regardless of extinction intensity.... π§΅π
Can't wait to the next CPEG&CPS in London in 2027! Just seeing this beautiful logo makes me excited. Mark your calendars! Tick tock, tick tock, tick tock.
Spatial Insurance of Distinct Ecological Functions

No, it is not a dream. This actually happened!!! We had a *fantastic* #CPEGCPB26 meeting and I cannot articulate any other adjective to describe it until I recover from it. Thanks to everyone who attended and everyone who helped making this happen. @kristinakocakova.bsky.social

WE GOT THIS!
Starts NOW - through the 14th. Donβt touch Amazon or anything Jeff Bezos owns.
A fossil shark tooth to the left, and two different copperplate prints of it to the right.
Enjoy this classic, broken megalodon tooth from Scheuchzer's collection for this #FossilFriday - & prints of it from his books Piscium queruleae (1708; centre) & Physica sacra (1731; right). Both prints include a line to show/reconstruct the shape the whole tooth would have had. #SciArt #EarlyModern
