Looking into spaced repetition for learning new things and revisiting old topics - languages, specific math/physics/CS, etc. Anyone have favorite Web sites, apps, approaches, blog posts, tips/tricks to share? Thank you!

MDCompress: better, faster compression of molecular dynamics simulation trajectories Marek Kokot , Amitava Roy , Travis J Wheeler , Sebastian Deorowicz

Product of a terrific collaboration with @sdeorowicz.bsky.social, Marek Kokot, and Amit Roy:

doi.org/10.1093/bioi...
MDCompress produces compressed trajectory files that are up to 37% smaller than in the widely-used XTC format. Nice software library interfaces for fast (de-)compression.

A good day to remember not to judge all
members of a religion by the actions of a political leader affiliated with that religion. Equally true of US, Afghanistan, Israel, or others. The corollary is that criticism of the politician or country is not criticism of an entire religion or ethnicity.

Today we share something our group has been working toward for a long time, led by @lucasmoriniere.bsky.social We asked can we predict which receptor a phage targets from its genome sequence alone? For most phages, we couldnโ€™t. So Lucas set out to do something I had only dreamed of.

22-year-old me would have been all-in on this advice. Pretty sure I did it once or twice.

53-year-old me is like: "Could I pull it off? I think I could do it ... honey, should I try it?!"

Anyone who has ever had the joy of using Google tech support will know that ... ugh.

So it's completely on-brand that, when I tried to submit a bug report today, this happened:

(1) Push buttons to raise "Bug Report" window
(2) Click "Bug Report" button
(3) nothing ...

(Support couldn't help)
