Absolutely not, who's ever heard of such a thing? It's almost as preposterous as walking the tracks at night and picking the dislodged spikes that nobody will miss out of the gravel!

I've done this before: All you need is a wooden crate like the one you'd get an anvil in. It will bear the weight of all the spikes you can stuff inside.

You're technically not supposed to go on the tracks, the workers will probably have an obligation to scare you off... IF they see you.

If not: You can nab anything that isn't literally nailed down and no harm is done. Railspikes and so much more shake out in use all the time and don't get reused.
