I wanted to share some words from a friend of mine that I would ask any of my parent friends to spread around. We need to be able to protect our kids. All of our kids. "Friends, the transgender kids in your community (and their families!) really need you right now. The latest Executive Order (included below) bans any type of gender affirming care for anyone under the age of *19* — and it is ugly in so many ways. In light of this and other transgender-related Executive Orders, some local hospitals and medical offices have started asking families to confirm their child’s sex at birth regardless of the appointment type or medical specialty. This update to the child’s biographical data is *not* mandatory, but it ultimately will result in the denial of certain treatments for transgender kids (such as delaying the onset of puberty) that are permitted for cisgender kids. It would be very helpful if families across the board would decline to answer that question so that transgender kids would not be so readily identified in these medical data sets. Thanks very much for considering this request!"

This world isn't a game. But we will still tell the stories, and those that come after us will connect with us as we have with those who came before. Let the stories remember that we chose defiant compassion and resistance to oppression. We can no longer afford inaction. Time to be our own heroes.

We must be brave and agile. We must be clever and learn quickly.
We must find the inner fortitude to defend those who cannot defend themselves, and give of ourselves freely to those in need.
We have to be ready to take the initiative as it comes up.

As things continue to get more and more horrible and oppressive in this country, one thing that will continue to keep us going is our shared stories. They remind us that we have survived before, and will endure again. But we must be the people we idolize in our stories.

The most beautiful part of it all, though, was seeing how much those stories affected the lives of so many different types of people. Stories of hope, unity, rebellion- these touch a place in each of us that reminds us that we are very much not alone in our darkest places.

This weekend was incredible. I am very lucky to have met some of the most creative and talented people in the tabletop role-playing performance spheres that are working in the industry today. Writers, performers, producers of all kinds of art united by a common love of telling communal stories.

Anything Mike Flanagan touches is worth watching.
