Depends on the genre but I would try even smaller scope for your second half. In game jams I aim for one interesting idea and one minute of gameplay. Especially in a jam setting people are jumping between lots of games to try them out. Sometimes ideas work and some flop once implemented.

Following some whole game tutorials is great on in the beginning so you know what all the tools you have to work with but then I would see how far you get without the guidance.

Game jams

I would try lots of little projects. I have found things stuck more when I had a problem then looked up how to do it rather than following along for a whole tutorial. You could try a game jam itch.io/jams which will give you a theme and a time limit.

If you are asking the question then maybe your heart already knows. Personally I have found Godot delightful and much more aligned with how I think

Lets all feed the Mouth n00begon's Games

Have you ever wanted to grab a couple of friends, each control one arm of a starfish and work together to feed a mouth through the power of physics?

After making many smaller gamejam games I am excited to be working on my first full size game at @crosshatch-kiwi.bsky.social
