JUST IN: Virginia adopted a new law yesterday to forbid sheriffs & local police from contracting with ICE — if ICE doesn't say it'll follow state laws & agree to let its agents be prosecuted.
Everyone seems to agree ICE won't promise that, and that this spells the end of ICE contracts in Virginia.

It is IMPOSSIBLE to overstate how offensive all that "51st state" stuff was for Canadians. It struck at the heart of their national identity. The thing about this is that Democrats DON'T "always fight back." That's exactly what makes this situation such a vital turning point! Trump and Republicans figured Democrats would lay down like they always do. That's why they're so shocked and angry about how this fight turned out.
