It's now or never as Luxon faces brewing backbencher spill Comment: In the wake of a chaotic and confrontational press conference, Christopher Luxon faces what may be the last great threat to his leadership.

The vibe was chaotic. Luxon himself was confrontational, at one stage challenging a reporter to name the disgruntled MPs in his caucus.

If Luxon wanted to project confidence, it’s hard to imagine a less convincing performance.

Thus, today's election is not really the end of an authoritarian regime. Rather, it is the first step in a much longer unwinding process.

It is massive and absolutely necessary first step — one that anyone who believes in democracy should celebrate. But it's more a beginning than an end.

‘They’re not ready for me’: high-profile Green candidate flips to independent Māngere doctor Timoti Te Moke says the Greens aren’t progressive enough for some of his policies

Another prospective Greens candidate withdraws, this time to run as an independent: Māngere doctor Timoti Te Moke thinks he has a better shot at winning the electorate and succeeding in Parliament if he doesn’t have to toe a party line.

Seeing Earth from the heavens We saw this week the worst and the greatest humanity has to offer – a precious reminder that we only get one shot at any of this, Marc Daalder writes.

I think I was not alone this week, as Donald Trump threatened to rain down hell on Earth, in turning my eyes to the heavens.

Some reflections on what it means to see us - all of us - from up there:

Every election post tonight is like "Wow the Democrats won the mayoralty in Racismville. Trump didn't just win Racismville but all of Klan-Guntruck County by 42."

Accusations of 'energy scalping' if retailers pocket battery rebates A new scheme provides cash when households export power to the grid at peak times, but some retailers are hanging on to the money.

New power rebates are designed to incentivise home battery uptake – but that may not happen if the savings aren't passed on, advocates say.

Recommendations have changed- availability has not.

And thank you to Marc and Newsroom for pursuing the story prompting recognition from Health NZ that their advice was confusing and resulting clarification being sent out. A piece of Public Good journalism.

Not cost/benefit (because they're still funded and the benefits of even booster vaccination clearly outweigh the risks, per HNZ).

Rather, Nikki Turner's explanation is that they're trying to target those at highest risk.

Whether that explanation washes is up to readers!

I believe it was "available" rather than "recommended" previously. And they remain available to the same cohort, though the language has changed to specify that they're not recommended.

You absolutely do not.

"Healthy adults aged 30 to 64 years who are eligible for publicly funded healthcare in New Zealand can still access funded Covid-19 vaccinations every six months."

They were already not recommended for most adults prior to this latest change.

A slightly misleading post: This is for boosters, not primary vaccination recommendations.

It's long been the case that regular boosters were not recommended for most healthy adults.

There has been a further change in recommendations, but availability hasn't changed: newsroom.co.nz/2026/04/01/c...

The guidance isn't wrong. Basically there is a difference between what's recommended and what's available. That difference isn't being clearly communicated.

And worth noting the screencap you've linked is for boosters - people are still recommended to receive their primary doses as normal.

2 weeks ago 10 1 2 0

They can still get vaccinated at 5!

"Healthy children aged 5 to 15 are recommended and eligible for one initial dose of the COVID‑19 vaccine."

Unfortunately just one dose and no boosters (the screencap above is boosters)
