A lot of people are saying you can't make it good until it exists, and this is true. So I'm not gonna add another one of those and instead say this:
Even if it's not ever as good as you want it to be, it will exist, and it will almost surely mean something to someone.

I just finished Paladin’s Faith (by T. Kingfisher), and I am going mildly feral over that epilogue. Now to wait for Judith’s book…

A morning with shower writing revelations is always a good morning.
It would be helpful if the shower revelations were related to either of the short story deadlines coming up, though.

“Smartphone adoption took years!” Yeah because they were ludicrously expensive. Nobody was breaking into our houses and leaving smartphones on our tables.

US tech firms successfully lobbied EU to keep datacentre emissions secret
Legally questionable confidentiality clause adopted almost word for word from demands of Microsoft and trade groups
I dunno about y'all but I'm fairly sure we were sold out. Everybody involved needs to be held accountable for this, and the data centers need to be held not just to the same, but to higher environmental standards.

Support our first Global Voices Spotlight Issue: Human Perspectives on AI!
Every month, Global Voices will be choosing an urgent theme to explore in depth across all our regions. This month we're exploring how the widespread adoption of AI is playing out for the Global Major...
We would love to include more in this series! we have so many great ideas and pitches, and while some are in process, we don't have enough funding for everything we want to write about. Donate to help us pay our staff for more hours and bring you more insights: globalvoices.org/2026/04/03/s...

I have borne a grudge against Jurassic Park my whole life because Deinonychus is my favorite dinosaur, and when Jurassic Park came out (when I was very young, peak dino age), suddenly everyone knew ”Velociraptor” and not “Deinonychus”

I believe that in order to take some small step forward, the word “bird” should be replaced with “saur” in all common names. Mockingsaur. Secretarysaur. Red-winged blacksaur.

It’s actually a promo sticker of the @duckprintspress.com mascot redesigned as my book’s main character, mid-transformation. So, a different but of course very accurately drawn bird. Alessa Riel is the artist, but I don’t think she has a bluesky.

A split bar chart of YouGov polling data with the headline: "Americans are most likely to say T. Rex is their favorite dinosaur, but many don't have a favorite."
The chart has the sub-headline: "Which of the following is your favorite dinosaur? (%)."
The chart has the note: "Note: "Other" includes responses of archaeopteryx, spinosaurus, plesiosaur, ankylosaurus, allosaurus, parasaurolophus, dilophosaurus, diplodocus, iguanadon, and pachycephalosaurus, as well as responses of "other." We know pterodactyls and plesiosaurs aren't dinosaurs. Opinion about dinosaurs comes from the question, "How much do you like or dislike dinosaurs?""
A shocking new poll result: Many Americans somehow don't have a favorite dinosaur.
And only 6% give the correct answer (triceratops).
Check out YouGov's new polling on Americans and dinosaurs: yougovamerica.substack.com/p/whats-your...

Yeah, Mackenzie Scott is a fascinating case. She is literally ignoring the SOPs of philanthropy in order to give away wealth as quickly and efficiently as possible and she’s still getting richer. At her level it is impossible not to make money. Tax billionaires, A LOT.

"The rise of extreme wealth is one of the clearest signs of this imbalance. In 1987, billionaires held wealth equal to 3% of global GDP. Today this tiny elite, just 0.0001% of the world population, owns the equivalent of *16%* of world GDP in wealth."

“…agents at the airport drove Batra to ICE’s field office in Harlingen in an unmarked van. She had been there many times… Office staff recognized her as she was being processed. Agents posed for photos with her handcuffed, which they said was for ‘social media,’ according to the habeas filing.”

Actually we should just give citizenship to every undocumented person in the United States who wants it. Walking over an imaginary line isn't some great moral atrocity. Making people live in the shadows as a permanent underclass absolutely IS.
