Boyfriend drew this for me.

Like, both of these characters I've mentioned feel written by people who are VERY OBVIOUSLY raising a small child with love and you can tell because of the small goblin mannerisms on both that are treated with affection instead of annoyance.

I think a crucial issue is that they mostly reduce their child characters to mechanics of both the story and gameplay instead of like, any sort of actually insightful character.

its wild that the two actually written good children i've seen in recent video games are this and REM DEADLOCK SOMEHOW

An additional layer to this is that I kinda feel like a lot of "dad games" have the issue where its really obvious that the people involved view their children as some sort of a pet, rather than an outright full person to be loved and nurtured. Its nice that this seems mostly devoid of that so far.

The dirty secret of the "dad game" is they were never about being a dad, they were about finding a new, more "mature" justification for indulging in violence

comments like this only really happen because people go to watch Kaze or pannenkoek's videos, assume the really niche smaller bits of the game you'd never really even see normally make the up the entire game experience, and then put on their big "game developer" hats to say this shit
