What Makes an Estimand Useful? Guidance on the Choice of Intercurrent Event Strategies While the use of estimands in randomized trials is increasing, there is little guidance on which intercurrent event strategies should be used. The article by Fleming et al. seeks to address this gap....

There’s a very nice commentary on the tension between relevance and reliability.

For anyone who is doing statistical simulation work, I honestly cannot recommend @timpmorris.bsky.social's elegant 2019 manuscript on ADEMP framework enough. Outlining a structured approach to planning sim studies, w/in-depth examples+how to display Monte Carlo SEs. #statssky#statistics #academicsky

✨ New open-access book✨
I’ve seen how powerful prediction models can be, but also how often they fall short. We wrote a book, covering not just development, but also when models are needed, and how to ensure real-world impact.

As a known HR hater, it brings me no joy to post this but I do think some papers are a bit sloppy with their criticisms of the HR (as highlighted by this nice paper)

Some say the overall HR is not causal. But I don't think this is the case for reasons provided here

New post on a topic you might have struggled with if you do simulation studies. For a given data-generating mechanism, you might wonder “What is the true value of my estimand?”

This post describes four ways to learn it.

Causal inference is hard, and advanced statistical analysis is not enough Health researchers need to fully understand the underlying assumptions to uncover cause and effect. Timothy Feeney and Paul Zivich explain Physicians ask, answer, and interpret myriad causal question...

As an editor I often see authors fall into a trap of stressing some fancy statistical technique for estimating causal effects. Often neglected are the necessary assumptions to map the data to the estimand. @pausalz.bsky.social and I wrote about it here www.bmj.com/content/391/...
