A screengrab of a Facebook post that says a few spots have opened up for the season at the Birdland Community Garden, which is in D.J. Butler Park on Flamingo Drive. It’s $30 for a fenced raised bed (no deer!) and includes water, compost and use of lots of garden tools. We also have a seed library
Some last-minute garden beds in the Clayton Park area’s community garden. (the form mentions living in this area but they’ve taken ppl from outside of Clayton Park before). Link to apply: docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F...
A Facebook post from the Nova Scotia PC party wishes Premier Tim Houston a happy birthday.
🥳
A Facebook post from Alberta Premier Danielle Smith reads: Premier Tim Houston and I are working closely together to build a stronger, more self-reliant Canada. Alberta and Nova Scotia see eye to eye on the need to develop our natural resources, grow our economy, and reduce reliance on foreign energy. Today’s roundtable centered on ensuring we match oil and gas expertise here in Alberta with new opportunities in Nova Scotia’s onshore natural gas sector. Special thanks to Minister Brian Jean for putting today together.
Quite the ❤️ for Premier Houston from Canada’s fossil fuel queen.
A drone that brought food to Ukrainian Defenders on positions, brought back passengers - a cat and dog.
They flew 12 kilometers during their evacuation. The Defenders of 14th Separate Mechanized Brigade are taking care of them.
Now is the time to show us your good, America.
Get rid of Trump and stop the bombs.

“There is no excuse for downplaying or eliding the insanity of Trump’s morning post. It is the most unhinged public comment by a president in US history and should be reported and remarked upon as such.” - Garrett M. Graff, author/historian
The real focus of stories about this Trump post should be about his rapidly escalating unfitness to be president. Hopefully some major U.S. media outlet will have the courage.
He needs to be removed immediately.
Global runs Border Patrol often. I’m surprised no one seems to have complained about the U.S. version. It’s also tone-deaf of Global to run it but it’s probably cheap and that’s all they care about.
1. Photojournalism is so, so important. Pictures really are worth 1000 words.
2. We don’t need to do stylistic photo shoots of fascist pricks who regret nothing!
Oof

I got the alert on my TV but not my phone (I’m in Halifax) so they must think he’s still in your general area.
Facebook post from Jason’s aunt, Kathy MacDonald: This is my nephew Jason , if anyone has seen him please go to the RCMP and report where and when. He has been missing since Thursday morning early (6am)and we the family have just found out, he is a very vulnerable adult with a brain injury since he was 19 yrs old. Jason is 5ft 11 and about 144 lbs, He hasn’t had his medication since Monday so not sure if he will be even more confused. He just recently moved to Truro from Berwick and lives near Patio Lantern. He has always lived in assisted living up until about a month ago and with cut backs the home he was living in in Berwick is being shut down. They moved J and another man to Truro and placed them into an apt with someone only there from 9-5 most days and no one all evening or overnight. We know he was at the apt on Wednesday afternoon but not sure when he left. His room mate believes it was early Thursday morning when he said he was going for a walk. He was wearing a plaid flannel fleece lined jacket and jeans and a Chevy ball cap. Anyone living nearby please check your sheds or out buildings in case he was cold and wanted to get in. He would go with anyone in a car because he thinks everyone is a friend. Please help get his picture out and help us bring him home.u
I just read this post from his aunt on Facebook. What a sin that Jason was moved from a more supportive environment. I hope he’s found soon, especially with the bad weather coming.
Tim Houston posted his congratulations on social media in 2022 and 2024 when Nova Scotia native Ben Proudfoot won each of his Oscars. Crickets so far on Tamara and Shane.
“When we met with (Coun.) Morse, she told us it would take a “very compelling argument” to vote against staff’s recommendation, as though community memory and historical significance – something required by HRM’s street-renaming ordinance – aren’t compelling enough.” web.archive.org/web/20260313...
In my experience, the biggest self-critics are usually the best journalists 🙂. If you can’t pick, narrow it down to 4-6 pieces and ask someone you trust for help (they can also proof your entry letter).
Since one of Trump-aligned/Netanyahu stan U.S. mega-billionaire Larry Ellison’s Oracle subsidiaries is already getting $365 million from Nova Scotia for its digital health records system, you’d think he could have let us have the sailboat race he co-founded as a freebie.
Halifax on June 18!
Screenshot of part of CBC article on point-of-sale donations that says: “The managing director of Charity Intelligence Canada is adamant that customers avoid donating at the till, unless they are fully informed about the charity.”
CBC did a story on this in 2022 (for folks who think the company gets a tax credit, they don’t).
TL;DR: one expert says cheap way to raise money, helps company look good (I’d argue it doesn’t). Another expert says give directly or at least fully research the charity first www.cbc.ca/radio/costof...
Gas prices going up again tonight at midnight in Nova Scotia, says the NSUARB. nserbt.ca/sites/defaul...
Thanks!
A community group I belong to has a website hosted on Wix but on renewal the price will go from US$276 to US$378. Can anyone recommend a cheaper option? Preferably Canadian.
It’s not paywalled. “A law that silences the family of a dead child is an unjustice law.”
