A light pattern thing on the side of a building I saw. It's gold coloured but I couldn't tell you what the image was to save my life. 2 tall trees flank it from either side. It's nighttime in the picture too.

Was just dicking around and did the high level bridge and back. The modal filter that spills out into 112 St & 72 Ave is a nightmare deathtrap though. Needs a bike trigger and proper stop light, not just some flashing bullshit with only a beg button 10ft away at the ped crossing 🤦‍♂️

It'd also be great as a pedestrian too! The amount of times I'll barely be halfway across an intersection and they're zooming past behind me only feet away. Imagine I tripped in the crossing, instantly crushed.

I work nights currently so my nights off I enjoy exploring the routes around Edmonton at night since I've only been here half a year now.

Reminds of Dundas in Hamilton, so many rich folks and so many neighbourhoods with 1 sided narrow as can be sidewalks and throwing a tantrum when a handful of bike lanes went in.

I take 102 Ave. for my commute and it's certainly a choice. The dual bike lane should just keep going as there is more than enough room to continue it and barely affect traffic at all. If that bridge closure has shown anything, it's that people manage to keep driving just fine seemingly.

Back in Hamilton, the 4000km I did on the bike share allowed me to see parts of the lower city in a way I had never seen growing up until I rode a bike. Now in Edmonton, my new bike has already taken me 160km (and counting) around the city. It's helping me discover this new place I now call home 😍

My other major dual track lane would run the entirety of 101 St. Drivers would shit a brick but it could be connected into so many east-west lanes all along it making it a vital bike spine through the core. Put connections to Victoria Art School, Royal Alex Hospital, NAIT, etc.

Absolutely, they're a time and place kind of option for me. My personal favourites will always be dual track and raised bike lanes. Edmonton needs A LOT more dual track though in my opinion. 104 Ave. is begging for one (especially by Rogers Place) as it's completely overbuilt for cars.

You are quite literally every stereotype of a car brained individual and it's kinda sad to be honest. We're trying to stay safe in protected bike lanes which you have a major problem with. I really hope you reevaluate your thoughts on this and have a little imagination rather than terminal carbrain.

And just cause we're a winter city doesn't mean cycling can't work. I don't know if you've heard of a little city called Montreal, but they'd like a word with you about that "no one cycles in winter" nonsense.

The amount of tax money spent on cycling in the city budget is single percentage points, that's statistically insignificant compared to road maintenance and the cops. We need protected bike lanes since drivers are so trash in this city. The more protected lanes you have, the more people who cycle.

Additionally, Carney and anyone else proposing "carbon capture" can go kick rocks. There is no feasible way that tech will do jack-all to reverse the damage being caused by the O&G industry and is a waste of time and money that is better spent on wind, solar and battery tech.

They can also miss me with the "but what about the O&G jobs" and perhaps come up with a proper job transition program to clean energy instead. You're gonna need a hell of a lot of people to install and maintain all those renewables so why not upskill the O&G folks???

And the @albertandp.ca has no problem just trucking along as they propose more pipelines 🤦‍♂️ The ANDP can talk till they're blue in the face about supposedly "cleaner" O&G but it's all lies. Maybe they should have an ACTUAL comprehensive plan to transition to wind/solar + battery storage!

My route to the eastern side of Edmonton above the River Valley. Travelled along the Capital Line, Yellowhead and Ada Boulevard before coming home.

A little chilly at 3am, but well worth the ride to explore along the Capital Line, Yellowhead and Ada Boulevard. I know MUPs aren't always the best but hot damn, I loved the one on Ada Boulevard. That's the type of routing I always dreamed Hamilton would have more of but didn't.

If the bike lane already exists, how is clearing it "inconveniencing thousands of drivers"? This is an incoherent argument and I'm a little unclear where your hate for cycling in Edmonton is even coming from. Every cyclist is one less car on the road, this is a good thing for drivers!

And every single person living in those apartments are going to be clogged to the gills with microplastics from the stupid amount being shed off those car tires.

I'll also add that I can't say that integrating peace officers further into the EPS operations will bear much fruit unless you want to make them even scummier than they already are. It's bad enough they have the gal to put "peace" in their title with the way they perform their security theatre.

Doesn't surprise me in the slightest. The UCP is like a bad rash, always coming back no matter how much you try and get rid of it. Just an utter cancer in this province.

Kinda glad I didn't bike into work tonight. 2cm of snow and every driver goes into dummy mode. 2 people drove 4ft into the 104 & 104 scramble, an idiot stopped dead on the sidewalk exiting a parking lot, people running the yellows at breakneck speed. Dumbasses galore.

There should also be no right/left on red cameras too. They'd be rolling in cash from the amount of dumbasses I've seen do that here.

I've witnessed them standing around chatting, watching hockey highlights, kicking snow on the platform, 5 writing a ticket for one homeless person, harassing people for simply nodding off on the train, physically pulling people aggressively off the train. Endless thug behaviour and a waste of taxes.

@andrewknack.bsky.social the city's police and peace officers are absolutely abhorrent when dealing with homeless individuals as well as their conduct in public generally. A bunch of them were talking on the MacEwan platform dropping f-bombs galore without a care in the world yesterday morning.

Witnessed a heartbreaking scene on the Metro Line last night. A homeless woman was in a full blown mental breakdown. A female peace officer was gently trying to get her off the train. Male joins minutes later and goes "you're banned from transit, get off immediately".

You realize that 38% of the winter from Dec-Feb was above freezing for highs. -15 and up was the average for temp, very manageable if you dress appropriately. And you can't compare peddle bikes to motorcycles, lol, studded tires and proper lane maintenance are all you need for a bicycle.
