Because of the World Cup, Canada got the CPL.
I don't know if the CPL is going to see a 2026 "World Cup Boom" -- but it'll be here in 2027, on its continuing trajectory, and that's something that FIFA (of 2018) can put in its "win" column.

You've got it all right. There's a malaise around the World Cup that saps all the fun out of the anticipation. I don't blame people if they're buying tickets, but I'm also not going to criticize any fan who just watches in their living room.
There is one thing, though, that's a positive...
It's mid-range, but mid-April rarely has weather that's conductive to big crowds, so it's hard to draw too many conclusions from that. (Same goes for Toronto and Cavalry, who played in the snow!)
Attendance for the Wanderers home opener: 5,888 on Fotmob.
Not a bad start!
When he puts it like that, now I really wish Callum Irving had scored…
A quick search was all it took for me to confirm my hunch. Like the chart says, *every* team is more likely to give up a goal in the last ten minutes.
It’s something to work on, yes, but it’s by no means the Wanderers’ unique and tragic destiny. We’ll be fine.
Yeah, Doner is incredibly talented, but he also bullies players and drops in a heartbeat to cry foul. Even when he was a Wanderer, it’d make me embarrassed to see him rise up from his howling and start sprinting as soon as the saw the ref wasn’t looking.
I don’t like the approach of mocking the system by misusing it to be petty… but it’s the job of the FVS system to fix its loopholes and prevent that misuse in the future.
Besides, Nash threw away his cards before a bunch of last-minute chaos in the penalty box, so that’s a lesson for him as well.
It’s not that bad for Supra, they’ve still got two more home openers this season!
What an incredible finish to that ITO-VFC game. Sure, the game was decided, but... Callum Irving, man. He's there for a header on the corner kick, then runs the length of the field to tackle the ball before Ollie Bassett puts it in an open net.
He's a league legend.
New: "To concede like that in the 97th minute is really tough, and quite frankly, unacceptable," says midfielder Isaiah Johnston of @hfxwanderersfc.bsky.social's 2-2 draw with @pacificfc.bsky.social.
My latest for hfxfootballpost.ca. #CanPL
My head patiently says it must be the latter, but my heart is a bad listener right now.
Maybe @joshrjhealey.bsky.social knows someone who can check the numbers: are the Wanderers really a team that reliably drops points late in the game, or does that happen to every team, and it just gets remembered so strongly by us that it feels like it happened just yesterday?
*sob*
Okay... now that I've closed my eyes and counted for ten seconds, my brain tells me we're undefeated and have five points from three games, and we have a new roster that's still learning the system, and we're showing improvement each game.
My heart is still aching, though. #HFXWanderers

Tell Vanni to be less loquacious and quotable, you’re working too hard!
Patrice gave us a new play style, new energy, and some fun games. But it sure took us a little while to get the ball rolling that season.
We’d lost Morelli and two games in a row at that point, and Edmonton was a new roster under league administration. A 3-1 victory has never felt as hollow as that — even optimists like me only celebrated for a minute before thoughts turned to the next match.
One could have made countless wrong predictions from that first scoreline, but the one immutable truth we learned that day? Circle Wanderers home games on your calendar, this place is special.
Ah yes, the early red for Callegari that had me thinking, “it’s honestly not a bad result, all things considered. Certainly it won’t be indicative of the rest of the season!”
Oops.
YOU THERE, BOY. WHAT DAY IS IT?
I gotta say I’m pretty chuffed with my fellow @hfxwanderersfc.bsky.social supporters. Just had one drop by the house & now I can’t wait for tomorrow. #COYW!!!
I’ll be safe in my natural habitat soon enough!
Great footage of Quebec fans in that video! ; )
Alberta Premier League? Ontario Premier League? sure, those make sense.
But we’ve already GOT a Canadian Premier League. Why duplicate the name?
Something else in defence of Inter Toronto’s rebrand: “York United” was, by far, the more confusing name.
And speaking of confusing names: I’m really having a hard time getting used to “PSLC, the Premier Soccer Leagues of Canada”.
That’s the sad truth - we don’t have home dominance, and haven’t since we lost to Pacific in the 2023 playoffs.
We’ve got work to do.
So this was the org that needed a loan from the CPL to pay Valour’s budget…
And TFC spent a lot more money being just as bad!
