In urban areas, the speed limit has almost no effect on travel times or average speed. It just limits how fast someone can go between red lights.

Privately-owned delivery services that come to your door are profitable, and nicely fill the gap when Canada Post won't bring a parcel to the door, but I'm sure that's just a coincidence.

It's important to respectfully balance the wishes of drivers who want unimpeded, high-travel and unlimited parking anywhere against other road users who want to not be killed or injured by drivers.

The UCP Tried to Kill a Health Story with Claims That Didn’t Stand Up | The Tyee The government cited numbers that its own data contradicted.

After the @theijf.org found Edmonton paramedics’ overtime jumped 81% in three years, staff from Premier Danielle Smith’s office messaged reporters and editors, claiming data was omitted and asking the story be rewritten or deleted.

At least one news outlet complied. @brettmckay.bsky.social reports.

North Vancouver chlorine plant rejected from continuing operations after 2030 | CBC News Chemtrade, a liquid chlorine manufacturer in the District of North Vancouver, is "disappointed" that councillors rejected its proposal to continue operating past 2030. While it submitted a peer review...

Absolutely insane this is being allowed to happen. Chemtrade produces 40% of all domestic chlorine in Canada - primarily used to treat drinking water - and they're being forced to cease operations after an online smear campaign funded by their direct competitor.

Would help if the hospitals put any kind of preventative measures in place (and actually enforced them). January 2026 - 45% of people admitted to Canadian hospitals for other things ended up getting infected with COVID while there, according to a different article. Criminal negligence, imo.

AI learns language from skewed sources. That could change how we humans speak – and think | Bruce Schneier Large language models aren’t trained on real-life conversations. As we encounter their language, it could affect our own

Oh:

A 2022 study found that children in households that used voice commands with tools like Siri and Alexa became curt when speaking with humans, often calling out “Hey, do X” and expecting obedience, especially from anyone whose voice resembled the default-female electronic voices.

As the world turns, and gently spews us out… Why, it was only a few months ago that I danced madly around the house and streets and pretty well everywhere after receiving my acceptance to the prestigious University of King's College MFA program in Creative Non-fiction. I've been wanting to do this program since it was set up, had a few ideas that I wanted to write about, loved the thought of hanging out with writers and publishers and agents and just stretching my mind.

Children may be at greater risk of death or injury, but it's my understanding that stopping speed enforcement would be good for the economy, which relies on fast-moving traffic, so this report doesn't give the whole story.
