Sooooo I haven't posted in a while. I've been hard at work, reimagining and improving just about every aspect of Shadey's Quest.
Take ingredients, for example. Cooking food for stat gains is the central mechanic of the game, but ingredients themselves were very boring. I've made them more fun.

For over a month I have been quiet, busy working on one of the most crucial features out there. Finally, it is done. I present to you....

The Loading Screen!

The first level – Greylands – is a barren wasteland with suspiciously petrified corpse-shaped rocks. Only the weakest shadows still live there. But otherwise it's a pretty nice and wholesome place. :)

Here is the Exiled Captain (on the right). Serving as the boss of the first act, he is one of the first enemies I designed, but easily one of the coolest.

As a solodev, I'm very restrained in how complex my art and animations can be. But I'm still trying my best!

Thanks! I took heavy inspiration from ARPGs, like Path of Exile or Diablo. Every item is capable of crazy stuff, but you are very limited in what you can equip, so you reeeeally have to invest into what you actually end up wearing. After all, it's okay if it's broken as long as you worked for it.

In Shadey's Quest you can get a bunch of cool equipment.

For instance, it can make his attacks inflict poison, or enhance his Vampirism grant him Damage. There are a ton of options so you'll have to pick which equipment suits your Shadey best. =)

Combat in Shadey's Quest is automatic (largely inspired by Loop Hero), but with some tactics involved: you can choose the target for Shadey to attack based on his strengths, making him focus that one pesky debuffer or healer that is countering your build.

Hi, I'm Cool Shade. I'm making Shadey's Quest, a roguelike where you have to feed a cute shadow monster and help him fight. You can check out the game at s.team/a/3041640 .

The main way for Shadey to get stronger is by eating. It's like actually training and earning experience but quicker. #gamedev #indiedev

Shadey will encounter lots of scary foes, but there is no fear in that empty head of his. #gamedev #indiedev
