Electrolysis last week: lidocaine did the trick, very little pain, A+ experience for getting zapped & needles shoved in your skin. This week? Lidocaine seemed to wear off quickly & second half of the appointment was Not Fun. However, I forgot to take an NSAID before the appointment & different tech.

Once voting opens, everyone who can vote should vote for Seanan for Best Series.

Why?

Well, aside from the fact that it's an awesome series, she will go into her local swamp in her ballgown. I want to see this.

Seanan + ballgown + swamp = happy Seanan.

A vote for Seanan is a vote for swamp fun!

Scientists turn scrap car aluminum into high-performance metal for new vehicles Scientists at Oak Ridge National Laboratory have created a new aluminum alloy called RidgeAlloy that can turn contaminated car-body scrap into strong structural vehicle parts. Normally, impurities…

Aluminium used to build cars can now be reused to build cars. A new alloy called RidgeAlloy turns contaminated scrap into strong structural vehicle parts. This solves the problem where recycled aluminium from mixed or dirty auto scrap was too weak for structural use buff.ly/tmDSuWf

I would love to read those. Fringe is so fun.

This discourse rolls around every six months and I'm always happy to chime in: ELEMENTARY is a great TV show qua TV show and best modern interpretation of Holmes, including that one you're thinking of, which was more of one dude's intermittent hobby, which also somehow turned into CRIME DR. WHO.

Man, when you compare the bravery of every day Minnesotans to the overpaid cops it’s astounding

Living through the COVID lockdowns alone is why I was able to call out the George Floyd protests as a time of collective mourning and catharsis, not true racial reckoning.

I hate that the past six years have proven me correct, but so many people in my personal orbit showed their asses in 2020.

We STILL haven't properly mourned the COVID victims. Likely we never will.

It really is something I will always fault the Biden administration for. He should have resisted the GOP and liberal impulse to memoryhole the entire thing.

We all still have leftover trauma from 2020 and January 6.

Yeppp. It also makes adjusting to the season (whatever direction it ends up going) much more difficult. Normal springs and autumns help us acclimate, so without that time to adjust, it all feels so much more miserable, both hot and cold. Bleh.

I hope you have an excellent tour! Also, thank you for being you, because you seem pretty awesome and I definitely enjoy your books.

Federal judge unloads on ‘unserious’ RFK Jr., says anti-trans policy showed his ‘cruelty’ Judge Mustafa T. Kasubhai vacated the “Kennedy Declaration,” finding it unlawfully attempted to override medical standards and restrict care for transgender youth.

Breaking: HHS’s ban on gender-affirming care is struck down. Rarely have I read a ruling this sharply worded.

“This case is one of a long list of examples of how a leader’s wanton disregard for the rule of law causes very real harm to very real people.”

Was reminded today of a great feature that duckduckgo has, one that google used to have, but got rid of:
I removed all of Fandom's search results with this, as well as a lot of slop sites. It helps produce clean results so much faster now.

As a middle-schooler in 2000ish, we had a computer tech class, & we were taught how to use Yahoo! & various other internet stuff (I think there was an email lesson), but it was a fairly low-key thing, and no one was shoving it at my parents, and that was only in the tech class. It was so different.

I dipped my toes into Pitt fandom on Tumblr and quickly ducked out. I am glad to know it exists and also glad to know I don't have to take part!

Well, I just put Leech Block on my dad's browser for YouTube. He'll be able to use YT on Sundays (church), but it's blocked every other day. 80% of what he's watched over the past few months is AI slop. His eyesight is too bad for him to catch the tells. I explained to him why, but I still feel bad.

A flatscreen display on a "smart" water fountain, demanding to be reconnected to the internet.

In 1999, I was playing a decker in Shadowrun, and tried to distract a guard by hacking a water fountain to overflow, and my GM said "why would a water fountain be on the network? That's fucking stupid. No you can't try."

Well it's 2026 and I just want you to know, Phil, that I FUCKING CALLED IT!
