Seed funding in academia opens up the door for many wonderful initiatives that otherwise wouldn’t happen: workshops, interdisciplinary seminars, podcasts, etc. For us it was an opportunity to create a networking space for postdocs, often overlooked as non-permanent staff [2/2]
In an auditorium: in the centre there is a screen with a powerpoint presentation which reads "Strategic Benefits of Internal Flexible Funding”. Three visible panelists, two women and one man (the latter holding a microphone) are sitting under the screen. A group of people in the auditorium is looking at them
About 25 people, all smiling for a group photo, behind them there is a slide which reads "UCD-Strathclyde Joint Workshop"
Last week Audrey Plan (UCD Research Culture) and myself on behalf of the #PostdocsSpotlight project had a chance to discuss our experience with running the project during the UCD-University of Strathclyde Joint Seed Funding Workshop & Everyday Cultures Collaboration Conference in Glasgow🏴 [1/2]
"Marine areas, unlike coastal or inland locations, are often seen as uninhabited resource sites and rarely looked at as spaces of lived experience or cultural meaning” - but that means we miss on a wealth of services (and disservices) the open sea brings to people.

Please don't wait til it's too late, get it in today.

🍀 We thank everyone involved in making this event happen: our speakers, moderator, UCD and QUB attendees, and to Lisa Douglas and the QUB Postdoctoral Development Centre, UCD Research Culture, Colleen Thomas and Grace Mulcahy.
A group of people - postdoctoral researchers from UCD and QUB - sit around tables in a decorative room and listen to a presentation by a researcher.
UCD Postdocs Spotlight concluded last month with a seminar entitled "Scales of Research”.
We took the event and our UCD delegates outside of the Belfield campus all the way to Belfast - a great opportunity to meet the QUB community 🎓

Protoreaster nodosus (aka chocolate chip sea star🍪) has an unusual "diamond-type” stereom. How is it formed?

Plenty of wonderful art around and focusing on Morecambe Bay - from sculptures and stories to festivals and community initiatives. To explore this phenomenon, my colleague Ashley Cahillane developed a story map with the support of @morecambebay.bsky.social - check the link below:
