Ironically, because they call out "welded repairs" specifically, the rules directly forbid me from welding, which obviously is the correct fix, but do not forbid using filler on a structural component...

I think the reasoning is most impromptu body repairs here are done to a "fuck it, maybe 2 years" standard after a failed inspection & they usually rust even worse afterwards
I think the rule is more that if a tester sees something that looks welded left handed in the dark they can just fail on that
You'd be surprised actually! It did remarkably well in it's crash test, I think it ended up as a 4 star ncap, which was really decent for a tiny convertible, so whilst you might not walk away from a crash, you will at least walk again unlike some of the very old stuff 😬
Strictly speaking that should be game over because welding a subframe is an illegal modification by the rulebook... but hey it's only illegal if you get caught and a grinder followed by thick fucking underseal absolves all sins, right?
Ugh, car decided to throw some wobbles at me today, one is that a coilover became a torpedo when I took it off the subframe because the shock gave up and fired the spring out... but I guess replacements are an upgrade... an expensive one... the other is a small rust hole in the subframe to fix 😑
