If you’re ever feeling down on yourself remember that you’re smarter than most living things.

Nobody said it would be easy. They just promised there would be coffee.

Ok I'll bite. Who's Gerry Mander?

Then it'd also be the best paper they've ever read! I like that.

Yeah the post was just some exaggerated self-deprecating commentary on the joys of publishing.

Even just add a “likely” here or there and I’d calm down.

Some causal humility wouldn’t hurt either. I argue with a historian colleague a lot over his repeated claims of “X happened *because* Y.”

What’s ironic is that many medical advances in history were motivated by keeping militaries healthy. Turns out it’s a huge advantages in war when your troops aren’t sick.

Sounds like the authors have been using too much AI and it’s impairing their ability to draw reasonable conclusions.

Playing Shadow of the Colossus (2018 remake) after 20 years. This game is a work of art. One of my all time favorites.

But here’s the wild part. They wanted a conservative philosopher to do public facing work on like libertarian ideals. Nothing in my CV would suggest I have any desire or qualifications for that. (The closest thing…

Fun fact: I was contacted by someone high up in these endowed “(conservative) viewpoint diversity” centers.

Apparently I was referred by a friend of a friend who likely assumed I was conservative because my first MA was from a conservative religious school.

It wasn’t an interview. More of…

We need more viewpoint diversity among journal referees who read my papers.

More “accept” and “R&R” viewpoints. Fewer “reject” and “this is the worst paper I’ve ever read” viewpoints.

Not that anyone actually thought otherwise but it’s wild to see the justices basically say “we all know how we’re going to vote without actually hearing the case” and simply decided to skip the charades.
