I’m not being self-deprecating here. I’m good at what I do. But I had been out of the research game for several years and had been teaching at a CC. There’s no way I would merit a position at an R1 given the trajectory I took. But they didn’t seem to care.

They mentioned a few universities that I certainly would not have been competitive at for a typical TT position. But if I had the right political views I could’ve easily landed an actual interview. They more or less offered one. I had to say multiple times that I wasn’t interested.
