One of the reasons Julius Caesar was assassinated was because he started putting his own likeness on Roman coins, where previously that was reserved only for people who were already dead.
@ellyxir itās all a bunch of nonsense but when it works it feels so futuristic and delightful. my outside lights come on when i pull up to the house at night. turning off my phone alarm turns my bedroom light on. but mainly, the killer feature is not having to get off the couch when thereās a [ā¦]

Last night I had a dream that Oklahoma decided it deserved beachfront property, so it just started conquering every state west of it until it finally touched the Pacific. They renamed it Oklahomageddon [map of the United States where the state of Oklahoma is highlighted in bright red. A long, thin red rectangle extends from the western edge of Oklahoma's panhandle straight across the map, cutting through New Mexico, Arizona, and California until it reaches the Pacific Ocean.]
This is beautiful
If, like me, you are delighted at hearing crowds get excited about things you don't understand in sports that are meaningless to you, may I introduce you to the 2011 Japanese Precision Walking Competition? www.youtube.com/watch?v=jINu...
Scott Horton @ @scotthortonshow Mar 13 "Can't build a decent car. Can't build a TV or a VCR worth a fuck. Got no steel industry left, can't educate our young people, can't get health care to our old people. But we can bomb the shit out of your country, all right!" āCarlin Aaron Rupar @ @atrupar Mar 12 Palantir CEO Alex Karp: "What makes America special right now is our lethal capacities. Our ability to fight war."
That's the reason Carlin got more angry over the years. He didn't do stand-up anymore. He just told us how it really is. And we laughed our asses of. Well..
No lie, it came from Industrial, Magickal, and Cyberpunk cultures. If weāre already talking about dismantling consensus reality, gender just seems like a freebie.
i thought i was gonna hate-read this article on how much New Yorkers get paid, but it was oddly fascinating to read about how people make money and the joys and anxieties specific to those careers [ā¦]

What five items would you place in a time capsule? Vladimir Putin, Donald Trump, Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, and maybe Mohammed bin Salman, to be opened, carefully, with precautions, in the year 3026.

@mediapathic.bsky.social truly, the spirit of romance is dead
I can't stop thinking about the LLM-generated compiler that passes all the unit tests but emits inner loops that benchmark over 150,000x slower than a gcc debug build. I couldn't possibly have intentionally come up with such a funny demonstration of the point of genuine expertise [ā¦]
@2avesag.as also! Amtrak has a fare level thatās fully refundable (not even a voucher for future use, refundable to your original purchase method). and you can cancel a trip up until departure time.
so nothing stopping you from booking a trip a few months out, speculatively.
Marc Benioff asked international employees to stand up at a all-company meeting then made a "light hearted joke" about ICE agents coming after them. Real class act, this guy

Elon Musk Y @elonmusk X.com For those unaware, SpaceX has already shifted focus to building a self-growing city on the Moon, as we can potentially achieve that in less than 10 years, whereas Mars would take 20+ years.
SpaceX shifts focus from something that it will never do on Mars to something it will never do on the Moon.

I thought I'd check out the winter olympics by watching some ski jumping.
Then I ended up watching the bobsleigh, downhill, freestyle skiing and luge as well.
It's a slippery slope.
