Turns out when you look at empirical evidence, the world looks different. Old joke: chemist, physicist and economist stranded on island with canned goods+ no can opener. Chemist: try to make acid, Physicist: heat to increase pressure, Economist: Assume a can opener.

I had forgotten so much of this...

If it's just a means of harvesting views for advertiser revenue, I expect they don't care.
"Emotion beats accuracy: The reason fake ads work so well isn’t because they’re dishonest. It’s because they’re emotional. They trigger curiosity, frustration, and desire in ways that a 15 second screen recording of actual gameplay never will."
I see I am missing a critical R
Cops are great
Also: guillotines are the moderate solution
For reasons unknown to me this 2015 story is really popular again right now, so, here it is again because why not.
Is “highways” defined in that KY statute? Because even if “Glen Lily Road itself is a state highway, according to Google Maps” some states entirely prohibit hoses on what we colloquially call highways (but which are probably “limited access highways” or somesuch.)
recent Axios story on maternal health policy referenced "findings" that a majority of people trusted their doctors and nurses. On the surface, there's nothing unusual about that. What wasn't originally mentioned, however, was that these findings were made up. Clicking through the links revealed (as did a subsequent editor's note and clarification by Axios) that the public opinion poll was a computer simulation run by the artificial intelligence start-up Aaru. No people were involved in the creation of these opinions. The practice Aaru used is called silicon sampling, and it's suddenly everywhere. The idea behind silicon sampling is simple and tantalizing. Because large language models can generate responses that emulate human answers, polling companies see an opportunity to use A.I. agents to simulate survey responses at a small fraction of the cost and time required for traditional polling.
As I’ve said a million times, I’m not particularly against smart uses of AI
This is the stupidest use I’ve seen yet though
A screenshot of a tweet by a user named “evan loves worf” commenting on a post by Laura Loomer. Loomer’s post reads “Grab her by the strait.” The quote tweet criticizes the statement, saying the premise of the joke is that he’s a rapist.
And we all know the truth about that.
“the experience brings home the uncertainty in Minnesota, not knowing who groups of men with guns are, and the frustration of feeling like local authorities aren’t willing to help.
Charges filed against bounty hunters who drew ‘replica firearms’ at anti-ICE protesters
Pretty much slashes anything for states, natural disasters, space, National Parks, other science... in favor of war and white men.

I should have credited the cartoonist for that
COMIC STRIP by B Deutsch Frame 1: A woman sits on the exam table in a doctor's office. She is holding her left arm, which is detached from her body, and talking to the doctor. DOCTOR: Hi, I'm Doctor Douglas. What seems to be the problem? PATIENT: I woke up this morning and my arm had fallen off. Frame 2: DOCTOR: Hmmm...First thing, let's get you on a diet. PATIENT: (annoyed) A diet? To reconnect my arm? Frame 3: DOCTOR: Your weight is the real issue here...How many times a day do you eat fast food? PATIENT: (angry) I'm here about my ARM! Frame 4: Later, the irritated doctor sits at her desk in her office, typing on her laptop: "Patient was uncooperative..."
I nearly fell in love with my podiatrist when my weight did not come up at ALL with my hammer toes, which happen due to BONE PROPORTION issues, not weight.
oooh! I've been checking in on the app, but if this is there, I hadn't found it.
“It does not restore the federal funding Congress separately voted to rescind in July 2025. These are two distinct actions, and the court only addresses the executive order.”
“The court issued a permanent injunction barring federal agencies from implementing the funding ban.”

He says the vote cheating is "legendary" but this is only true in the sense of "fictitious."

If you have a religious statue on state land, you have to allow other religious statues.

Millions of dollars are missing.
ABC, Paramount, X, and Meta all settled lawsuits by promising to donate millions to Trump's library fund.
Now, his initial library fund is gone.
Is the money in Donald Trump's pocket? I'm pressing for answers.
A “Grandiloquent Word of the Day” meme featuring the word “Vernalagnia,” with its pronunciation and definition: “An overwhelming romantic mood induced by Springtime; spring fever.” Below, an example sentence reads: “Those juvenescent chaps, driven half mad by vernalagnia, did occasion no small scandal at the Spring Fling Sock Hop.” The design uses ornate, Victorian-inspired typography on a parchment background. To the right, a detailed black-and-white illustration shows a young couple in medieval-style clothing reclining together in a field of flowers, evoking romance and springtime.

Tax season: "the wealthy absorbed neighboring farms through purchase ...similar to the US today, where investor-ownership of land and housing has made it harder for ordinary people to own property themselves."

Wore a silly hat to the local No Kings protest against the guy who is acting like a corrupt king, enabled by the Republican Congress.
It was 27F with a breeze, brrr.
I would *love* to do the button thing, but I just don't have the sustained attention for it.
So I watch "Elsie Wants" by Mary Robinette (the Hugo winner) which is fascinating.
Our senior kitty developed this - often in the middle of the day, when she had recently seen the humans but we weren't in immediate sight.
We think this signified onset of dementia... or at least severe age-related memory issues "my humans have left me all alone for HOURS and I'm really upset!"
