As your children age, keeping a strong portal of communication open between you is critical. Reading aloud not only builds and maintains this portal, but allows for deep connection through all of your discussions about the characters and happenings in the books you read. Books are a treasure!

In the image, there is a colorful and whimsically illustrated playground with the image centered on a pirate ship with colorful, patched sails and a young girl, dressed in pirate garb, standing in the bow with a spyglass to her eye. The ship sits on a large, wood chipped playground with lots of equipment, sandboxes and children playing. In the deep background, children are huddled together around a large sign which has many words, but it is too far away to read by someone looking at the book. However, if one turned over the book, they would see a close up image of the large sign (and the children surrounding it). The sign reads ‘Carried Away’ which is one of the 38 poems offered in the book. Also in the deep background, gazing at all the joyous and imaginative play going on before us, is me and my brilliant illustrator Dhana. We are sitting in Adirondack chairs, me with a writing pad and Dhana with a sketch book, hoping you love what we do!
Mine has just arrived! A whimsical book of children’s poetry which seeks to entertain, no doubt, but also gently nudges parents to spend more time reading aloud with their children. This is my mission and my calling as a retired Kindergarten teacher! Readaloudguy.com
