Hey, Everybody!
We collected your ideas, combined them with our own and here is the proposal for this evolution chain.
The big question is DO YOU LIKE IT? ๐
Be honest!

I'm giving away 25 copies of Vol. 3 of the Dome Keeper OST... but I'm too lazy to babysit the process.
So instead I just made a spreadsheet. Take a code, and change the dropdown from "Available" to "Claimed".
If this works well, I'd love to do more of this in the future.
I like that way of progression. Would maybe not work here well, so probably the first unit name should be used for a different class.
Guess that makes you more think of a mounted tank unit. Cataphracts are supe rcool though, but not so fitting here I feel.
Fledgling more refers to a baby vampire. But the bird theme is an idea.
Indeed that'd be the lowest hanging one you can go. But i guess then people also expect a jump ability and then you might get problems as an indiedev :D
Don't unscrew it :D
GImp doesn't have a symmetry tool, so I guess i just draw them with gimp construction tools.
I just designed some unit evolutions for the "Fledgling" unit of Vampire Tactics.
It's a rather fast close combat fighter with moderate defenses.
Now I only need some cool class names. Do you any cool ideas how to name this units promotions?

I am fondly remembering a lot of moments with the game. It was the perfect slow paced, yet exciting exploration journey after a long day of work. The soundtrack softly creating the atmosphere of the big cavern, while slowly moving through mysterious waters, filled with threats and wonders to behold.
Most pilots hang out at Cafรฉ Stadtpark. It serves as a nice living room for most people who want to get away from the usual rusty metal walls, sit in a rundown room with grimey tapestry and sip on a warm cup of mushroom coffee.

True, I always then ask students like that, if artists going out into nature and drawing plein air stuff are then "cheating".
And usually it goes like "of course not".
Of course there is the challenge to go from a realistic reference to any stylization, but describing what you see is core in art.
The cheating argument is funny once you realize that all you draw you've seen before or simply compose of parts you saw.
There is a strong point which can be made about the usage vs. just exact copying of reference. But "cheating" when using references really lacks substance in its argumentation.
Glad to hear it was inspiring to you!
What did you learn from it?
thanks a lot.
Generally the biggest problem was that it was not streamlined enough and played slow...
So gameplay fun just didn't really come together and because the calculations had some specials to them, overcoming that issue if you know the system also didn't really happen either.
Old tactics game prototype. Here I tried to capture real medieval battle tactics within turn-based gameplay.
This taught me a ton about what works and doesn't work in turn-based games.
Do you have a project you canโt seem to finish?

That's amazing, pretty sure you were spreading some positivity. Also thanks, I am doing well. It's just been hard to keep up social media, due to fulltime work and personal game projects.
Taking a moment to tell indie creators, that their creations evoke something has a big effect. It gives them the biggest boost in motivation.

Got moved to the right in the level later on. There also were leveldesign placeholders for traversal flow etc. which also changed.
In this project for most areas we picked some strategic spots / rooms to make early concepts for. The polished gameart got produced sometimes months to years later.
Sketches need to nail the desired mood.
Making games is complex and takes a lot of time. Therefore it is very important to sort out bad options as early as possible.
Art direction always should evoke specific feelings & mood, even for generic places. Polish only helps if the sketch is fitting.
posting this 'ol thing again for no reason
