Given all the great work I’ve seen, I’m so proud to announce that my book, Truth is Trickiest, won the prize for the best monograph of 2024 from the International Society for the Study of Early Medieval England!
‘Foxfires on New Year’s Eve at the Formal-Dress Hackberry Tree’ — uncannily pale salmon-pink foxes, their breath forming fires, gathering under a tree in the middle of a dark night. A procession of countless more foxes (likewise topped by flames) can be seen snaking off into the distance.
@lyftfloga.bsky.social and I were discussing foxfires on the train home and had a very interesting conversation with a lady across the aisle who had just had an uncanny encounter with a fox in Hyde Park.

Especially grateful to @helenthev.bsky.social for performing the riddle battle with me!
Had a great time last night launching my book! Thanks to all who came along! Was honoured to have Jane Roberts and Catherine Clarke there!
I enjoyed @ccurran.bsky.social paper on #BretPal so much - her research promises major advances in our understanding of Breton palaeography 😇
Thank you! I’m so pleased with how it turned out.
I don’t talk about Wulf and Eadwacer…. I’m still not sur whether it’s a riddle or not!
Seems weird that I haven’t mentioned this before…. Yes, that book I’ve been writing for 20 years came out in July. Isn’t it beautiful? Am trying to work out what a book launch party could be… Stay tuned!

I’m so glad it’s still worth reading! Hope the exams went well!
Am absurdly proud that the book I published in 1999 made me £5.42 last year!
