Getting ready to file my taxes. My wife and I paid $23,500 for 2 kids in daycare in 2025. 1 going from 3 days/week to 5 days/week starting in September. We often ask, "Where is our money?" Childcare is a big culprit.

Camden’s crime rate has dropped since 2012, but violence remains high Community policing and surveillance technology have helped reduce crime, but Camden's homicide rate remains higher than Trenton, Paterson, and Newark.

I was interviewed by @amirasweilem.bsky.social from @nj.com for this article on Camden's violence reduction since 2012:

Typical sentiment of dismissal by some (maybe many) current and former law enforcement officers. This is why trying to change police culture is like "bending granite."

Violent crime is trending downward in Camden. Here's why. Camden continues to see historic lows, but homicides per capita in the city remain above national numbers.

Camden’s historic decline in crime requires context, say experts :

BTW, it seems like many of these officers also violated their own DHS policy that requires rendering medical aid:

Noem doesn't seem correct here. The ICE officer is in violation of policy. Below are screenshots of the revised 2023 DHS use of force policy:

In 2023, a Blendon, Ohio police officer fatally shot a 21-year-old pregnant mother named Ta’Kiya Young, which also killed her unborn baby. Dispatched to an alleged shoplifting, one officer can be seen positioning himself in front of her car with his firearm drawn and pointed.

Constraining policy language was associated with fewer police shootings at vehicles A low-hanging fruit measure to reduce a sub-set of police shootings of citizens

I wrote this last year. Seems incredibly relevant today in light of the fatal ICE shooting of Renee Nicole Good:

The murder of Renee Nicole Good is a tragedy. Whether the officer's shooting was justified or not may be up to a jury to decide. It is very possible for it to be viewed as, & I hate saying this, "awful, but lawful." What's clear is that the shooting violated training AND policy.

The best use of force/firearms policies should severely restrict shooting at moving vehicles (terrorist/ramming attacks notwithstanding), while instructing officers to do everything possible to move out of the path of a moving vehicle.
