I thought it was me as a wildlife biologist

My favorite part of going to the doctor is when he touches my forehead holding the glowing orb of light
that's a much darker male than I am accustomed to....Pacific subspecies? In Minneapolis I mostly see Taiga subspecies but have also seen the very light Prairie subspecies.
I just got an "invitation" from "The New Yorker" to be spotlit in a special feature, and the "invite" came from a hotmail account, and I'm all, awwww, the spammers have discovered 1996
tell me about Wart! This was a captive bird?

the #BirdOfTheDay theme today is #JKLMNOP, any bird that has these letters to start their 1st or 2nd names. The alt theme is #Urban, birds in an urban environment. So here is a male Merlin on a phone pole in my #Minneapolis neighborhood, May 2017, offering food to his mate. CC @alan678.bsky.social 🦉
Orban eating shit would be incredibly good news. That was the Epstein/Bannon/OG alt-right pet project for years and their model for how they want to gain permanent power. If they flip every lever there and still lose, there's real hope.
yes, you should!
This heartbreaking handwritten note left on a ballot in today's Hungarian election, the remnants of sixteen consecutive years of Viktor Orban's regime.
"I cast this vote in memory of my parents, who died with fear and hatred in their hearts."

Is the fact that the Iran war wasn’t congressionally authorized something we no longer talk about? Seems like the reporting/discussion now just assumes that Trump can just do whatever he wants wrt the use of force
The sun shines on a man and his pig
“Little ideas that tickle and nag and refuse to go away should never be ignored, for in them lie the seeds of destiny.” I just watched the talking pig movie "Babe" from 1995 and good lord what a delight

@abbiememorydoll.bsky.social designed the poster for RUBBLE NOIR, coming in May. The debris of industrial culture callously scattered in the postwar years in Europe and Asia was a portrait of human folly. The films noir made in this environment are extraordinary.

The wildlife trade is fueling disease outbreaks across the globe, writes @washingtonpost.com.
New study on the trade “reinforces that governments need to control, regulate and, in many cases, stop this trade,” said WCS’s Susan Lieberman.

I was able to make suggestions. I suggested the Banovich tiger and the background map (from 1755 I think, I have a copy that I scanned and sent to the designer). Both suggestions made it into the final design!
Watch the video. Read the whole damn paper. Birds. Are. Amazing. #birds 🌿

only 27 left: we may lose Asiatic cheetahs because of this war. "I doubt that the government has any money left for the conservation of the cheetah” says Jamshid Parchizadeh in @mongabay.com: news.mongabay.com/2026/04/war-... 🧪🌍
Rocky Gutierrez gave me this sticker - he saw you I think at the Raptor Research Foundation meeting last year.
fantastic!
I see the fish owl sticker on your table! Love this design!

I love my job. I believe in ProPublica's mission. I have so much work to do today on a story that should publish soon.
But today, I'm on strike with my colleagues at the @propublicaguild.org. Hoping we get over the finish line SOON on our very first contract -- and a fair one.
A hardcover copy of TIGERS BETWEEN EMPIRES by Jonathan Slaght on a fence post alongside a two toned drink in a low glass surrounded by pine branches.
NEW VIDEO ALERT! Today on Bar Cart Bookshelf we're talking about TIGERS BETWEEN EMPIRES by Jonathan Slaght. A thrilling account of the 30 year Siberian Tiger Project, a marvel of triumphs & complications in conservation, starring one of the world's most iconic predators. Our drink is the Amur.
I’d also recommend “Owls of the Eastern Ice” by Jonathan Slaight, very entertaining.
such a cool study reported in @sciam.bsky.social: People listened to "dozens of pairs of mating calls from 16 animal species...humans tended to prefer the same mating calls that animals themselves did." 🌍🧪

I've been enamored with the tiger image on the cover for years - it's by a Montana-based wildlife artist named John Banovich. Another of my favorites of his is this one, a tiger on the shore on the East Sea/Sea of Japan in the Sikhote-Alin Reserve: shop.johnbanovich.com/products/joh...
My kids have no memory of any politics but those of this hateful fucking bastard. May they live long enough to see something better.
