Rewatched Renfield, didn’t like it the first time but I watched it all this time and I did rather like the moments where Dracula is stuck in the Ikea like apartments, was rather funny.
Watched the Peaky Blinders film. It’s not very good. Terribly fails to use Tim Roth in any sort of effective way as no one can outshine its working class James Bond lead. Why is Stephen Graham even in it? And it’s pretty sexist as well for a rock and roll fantasy with hints of romantic sad man vibes
Not by choice, I am watching an episode of Celebrity Sabotage. It makes me hate the world even more. Absolute shit.
Watched Hail Mary, I enjoyed it, a good film. Looked great, emotional and tense in the right places, could have been funnier and Gosling is better when he has someone to build chemistry with, the dynamic between him and Huller is great, and generally it was a solid film.
Jumping back into the x files, it holds up well, it is a solid piece of television.
Rewatched the fall guy, really good chemistry between Blunt and Gosling which made me overlook the films flaws. And a French speaking dog.
Watched Old Dads by Bill Burr. I like him, so I liked the film. It was funny and he was good.
Watched Mr Burton, thought it was pretty good. Both leads were strong, some nice emotional moments and generally a solid film to recognise the star.
Watched the anaconda reboot. It wasn’t that funny. The best thing was the kids movie where they were swearing all the time, I could have watched that for a lot longer than this.
Getting into Industry to see what it is like. Finished Season 1, it is pretty funny in places, a lesser version of Succession, some annoying characters but it has its moments.
Finished Season 2 of The Night Manager. Started off well. Strange middle and an interesting cliff hanger ending. Better than the first as it is not so much focused on the lifestyles of the ultra rich.
Rewatched Series 1 of the Night Manager. It is pretty solid, a bond light. But has some solid moments.
Finished Traitors Season 4, it was actually a lot better than previous ones. It fell down a bit with its usual cull of all people interesting and smart but it there was something a bit different about this one. It was good.
28 years later: The bone temple. It’s ok, I could watch Ralph Fiennes all day but the Iron Maiden bit was ridiculous. As a trilogy it hasn’t done anything to bring the landscape to life other than borrow reference points from other films.
Watched Leave the World Behind. It’s really annoying on every level.
Watched Havoc, the story is virtually not there but some of the action sequences are pretty impressive and crazy. The body count is ludicrous, I can’t imagine watching the news the next day, there are war films with less death. It is pretty dumb and Hardy doesn’t have the charm of Keanu to make it.
Watched the new Matt Damon and Ben Affleck film The Rip. I really respect what they are trying to do with the new finance model but it was so fucking corny. Really obvious and had that Netflix plastic quality to it. When AI takes over on the streamers, you won’t even notice.
Watched Relay with Riz Ahmed, I think it would have been a pretty solid film if it didn’t have that streamer movie shine all over it. And some big cast members are there just for window dressing. But always good to see Riz in a major lead.
The Seven dials Mystery, a fairly obvious twist and a little famous five at times but it was fairly enjoyable with a good dynamic between the lead and the detective which is unusual in those sort of things.
Rewatching Lord of the Rings, the two towers. The best one of the trilogy, amazing stuff. Helms deep is fantastic and should be longer, but there are also so many other elements that are outstanding with some great musings on friendship, stories, suffering and war, and the sfx still holds up.
Jumping back into the lord of the rings trilogy. Fellowship of the ring is a great opener, puts so much groundwork in and throws you into the world. Brilliant film.
Watching Traitors Season 4, another gallery of stupidity and self-delusion.
Finished Season 5 of Stranger things. Some good moments, but strangely weighted and wastes time on unimportant stuff, takes ages to end and there is just not enough death and suffering. You can’t save the world without losing some friends. But there was some strong moments.
Rewatched Gremlins 2, truly batshit, it is so creative and has no rules but it also has none of the magic of the original. It has some cool ideas, the bat gremlin and the talking gremlin being really clever developments on the first film but it just isn’t that good.
Rewatched Gremlins, it is such a cool film. The moment when hundreds of little green things come running up the street is amazing. The gremlin in the microwave is horrible but general it is such a fun movie.
Rewatched Snowman and the snowdog. The last time I watched it, I cried because it was a few months after my dog died. It’s still really sad but it is also beautiful and a solid follow up to the first one.
Rewatched the Snowman. It’s beautiful, an amazing little film.
Watched in the Land of Saints and Sinners. Liam Neeson is a good man who just happens to murder people for money but he is a good honest and kind man. It’s actually not bad and perfectly watchable and had a good quality to it.
Watched click and collect with Stephen Merchant, jingle all the way meets plains trains and automobiles. A good dynamic between the two leads, and funny moments, was ok.
