No other ancient document holds my interest and affection quite like this one papyrus, written in Egypt in the Armenian alphabet. It's a goldmine of linguistic evidence not for the Egyptian or Armenian language, but for Greek!

De l’alemanya nova, tot i que no hi ha un verb de moviment ("Jenseits des langen Tunnels” = “Enllà del llarg túnel”), m’agrada el dinamisme de “erschien das Schneeland” (“va aparèixer el país de neu”).
Com que les traduccions dels anys 60 la majoria es feien de l’anglès o el francès, em pensava que trobaria més traduccions noves directes, però a part del portuguès només sembla que hagin actualitzat l’alemanya.
L’anglesa m’inspira una imatge força diferent perquè comença amb el tren, en comptes del contrast túnel/paisatge nevat. “The train came out of the long tunnel into the snow country.”
Totes les traduccions indirectes a través de Seidensticker òbviament comencen igual amb el tren.
De la francesa m’agrada el “voici,” però comparada amb les altres li trobo a faltar una mica de moviment: “Un long tunnel entre les deux régions, et voici qu’on était dans le pays de neige. L’horizon avait blanchi sous la ténèbre de la nuit.”
La nova traducció portuguesa també m’agrada per com manté el dinamisme: “Atravessava-se um longo túnel e lá estava o País das Neves. A noite assumiu um fundo branco.”
La traducció de Nolla aprofita els recursos del català per evitar el subjecte dient “En sortir del [...] túnel [...] s'arribava al país de la neu.” La paradoxa de la frase següent (“El fons de la nit era blanc”) reforça els colors de la imatge, posant tot el focus en l’efecte visual.
En termes cinematogràfics podríem dir que la càmera comença dins un túnel fosc i de cop apareix el paisatge completament blanc de les muntanyes de Yuzawa.
El que fa memorable aquest principi és la sorpresa de l’aparició sobtada del País de la neu després del túnel, amplificada pel fet que el verb actiu de la primera frase no té subjecte explícit.
Amazingly this version has not one but two footnotes on that very first sentence, once for 국경(国境) and one for 터널(トンネル), explaining exactly which provincial border and which tunnel are meant. I can't imagine a Spanish publisher being ok with that.

Es lo que tiene que lo tradujeran tan pronto por el Nobel, que las hacían del francés y el inglés, y si quien tiene los derechos de aquellas no quiere encargar nuevas traducciones directas...
Pero me suena que Tana Oshima había traducido algo de él recientemente, ¿no?
Efectivament, si no és el principi més famós de tota la literatura japonesa moderna, segur que està entre els cinc primers.

If anybody has the opening from the translations into Serbian (_Zemlja snega_, tr. Flavio Rigonat), Ukrainian (_Країна снігу_, tr. Іван Дзюб) or Esperanto (_Neĝa Lando_, tr. Konishi Gaku), I'd love to see them.
Also, any other language you have a translation in, even if I cannot read it.
