Just out of the oven and it seems a little wet, really hoping it thickens as it cools!

If red state schools accept this we are going to get a two-tiered system of higher ed. One set of states will be based in empirical reality and the other will be subject to the whims of a conspiratorial movement that is increasingly detached from facts.

Everybody who fell for the Harper's Letter or all the hand-wringing about "uncivil" students on the left, congratulations. You built this. You own this. And fuck you for being the useful idiots these fascists needed to launder their dismantling of academic freedom.

When Campus Reform and Turning point came after professors and created the professor watchlist, administrators didn't pay attention..Now they are being fired and attacked. Maybe institutions should have done more to protect academic freedom....

This point cannot be over-emphasized enough. When I left the FBI in June, I said that if the destruction stopped that day, it would take a decade to repair. Talking now to friends still there, I think I was being too optimistic. We are witnessing the self-immolation of a great country.

Absolutely, it’s delightful how enthusiastic he is to share his knowledge!

That’s how it is with my 18-yo Mech Engineering major son now. He’s teaching me how to use CAD software.

Yes, I often say something like “oh, tell me more about that!” Very similar to approaches I sometimes take to draw out students :)

I appreciate that this is a real issue, but I promise not a problem in my house! I’m just joking, my kids don’t doubt my expertise and they have many highly accomplished women in their lives.

One of my favorite things right now is when my 10-yo tells me something he learned at school, I act like I’m not really familiar, and then he teaches it to me. He just gave me a great lesson on prime vs composite numbers. At some point he’s going to wonder how I can possibly be a science professor.

I’ll be blunt: no respectable media outlet should be providing a platform for Florida Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo.

He is nothing but a factory for anti-science propaganda. He has nothing of worth to convey to the public.

This should be a bigger story. A government official had the YouTube channel of a private citizen shut down bc he didn’t like what that citizen was saying. This administration’s version of free speech is a joke.

What if scientists hadn’t waited until this point to speak about politics

Every time I see a headline like this, my brain just shouts

Like what if scientists hadn’t sat around silently watching everyone around them get attacked

Maybe the fight on campus would have gone differently

Dear people who are saying that the CDC directors who quit yesterday should have “stayed and fought”,

With all due respect, you do not grasp the magnitude of the problem of RFK Jr.

He is asking them to do unethical and immoral things that will actively harm the people of the United States. 1/3

Scientists’ role in defending democracy The United States’ democratic leadership, commitment to freedom of expression, and investment in the pursuit of knowledge have long enabled its preeminence in science and technology. Yet today we are ...

Read this.

In this political climate, it is our duty as scientists to collectively mobilize, reveal the deceit & the malicious misrepresentation of science happening here.

This is why we have op-eds, letters of dissent, petitions & public statements.

A hypothalamic circuit that modulates feeding and parenting behaviours - Nature Single-cell transcriptomic analysis of mouse hypothalamus and behavioural experiments show that specific hypothalamic networks regulate conflicting feeding versus parenting behaviours of female mice.

How do animals decide if they should forage for food or stay home to take care of newborn offspring? Whose needs come first? For my PhD work now out in Nature, we examined how hunger and parenting neurons interact and are reshaped postpartum in mice đŸ§”âŹ‡ïž www.nature.com/articles/s41...
