So About Mia Ballard and the Horror of Shy Girl Whose fault is this, really? You poor unfortunate soul So, despite my personal opinions, the public and Hachette UK has decided that Mia Ballard's book is AI-generated and pulling it off the shelf. There's been a lot of commentary -- some of it alarmist, and some of it not -- but there's one thing that's been overlooked ... and whose fault is this?

My DNF Journal What Lies Within is Between Me, the Supreme Being, and the Wall "Lily & Tomato" journal by Paperblanks by way of the Getty Museum In case you didn't know what DNF means, it means "Did Not Finish." I've had plenty of books I've DNF'd, but sometimes my reasoning for why I quit is ... not for polite company. Or any company.

Untitled Daily writing prompt What tattoo do you want and where would you put it? View all responses I would actually love to have a dharma wheel on my right wrist. Something I can always see. While I do not consider myself spiritual or Buddhist, I do admire the principles. However, because I'm terminally indecisive, I know I will immediately regret getting a tattoo because I can't change it at will. This is actually why I keep a small stash of temporary tattoos because I can just change my mind with soap and water.

Keeping a journal of all the books and fanfics I've DNFed has been a good exercise. I just went on a ten page rant about something I DNFed. Thank god no one will ever see this journal except me.

a cartoon character is laughing wickedly with a bandage on his head ALT: a cartoon character is laughing wickedly with a bandage on his head

Judging by the hate mail I just got, the afterword in my book has successfully pissed off at least one person in the "Rule Britannia, by Jingo!" crowd.

I tried writing in a dot grid notebook for a week instead of my usual lined notebooks.

Never again.

I have 6 1/2 pages of notes in an A5 journal about the calendar system. Serious math time. But really, Milo could have done this himself if he thought of an original cosmology.

Hint: I moved Gardian to my OG Ringworld setting for this rewrite, because a regular planet is too confining.

Welcome to the Churn: Generative AI, what it can do, and what it can’t, and how you can fight back. You’ve seen it, haven’t you? Fantasy books that are chasing the next ACOTAR high, cookie-cutter vaguely-medievalish settings that have the depth of vermeil over cheap steel, where the d…

The Age of Scorpius Preliminary Autopsy Report, Personal Writing Projects, and Other Stuff Going on in the Life of a Napoleonic Cryptid I swear, officer -- I didn't see a thing! The tree just jumped out of nowhere and hit him! "Was" -- note the past tense I was at work when I got the notification from a mutual on Tumblr this had happened. The World of Guardian and The Age of Scorpius is finally kaput. Fin. RIP 20 February 2026. Not even pining for the fjords of Norway.

New gadget I acquired. It’s the XTEink 4 e-reader. Only slightly longer than a credit card. Doesn’t have its own backlight, but I can read anywhere because it fits in a pocket easy. Best thing ever.

[Daily Prompt] What is the biggest challenge you will face in the next six months? Daily writing prompt What is the biggest challenge you will face in the next six months? View all responses I decided to pull the trigger and go for an official diagnosis of autism. It'll be expensive, but it's not the first time I've had to drop a large amount of cash on something that is absolutely necessary. I've been under a lot of stress lately, mostly related to work.
