~ particularly when the overly-powdered monstrosity was paired with a cup of mildly bitter chicory coffee. And Cafe du Monde accomodates those out late wandering the quarter.
The revelers could have their fun. He was content sipping his coffee and watching the crowd.

~ not entirely sure, though his research seems to suggest that that particular influx began in the late eighteenth century.
All downhill from there.
At least, for the moment, he was enjoying peace if not quiet.
As much as he complains about the Crescent City, he is a sucker for a beignet --

Renz always bristles a little when family "business" takes back to this city. New Orleans seemed to be the epicenter of all things supernatural these days.
And it was positively crawling with vampires.
What brought that about, he is ~
"Well, it seems that you very much can if you can choose whether to kill or not."
~ coat and begins shuffling.
"You there! How about you?"
~ he would not be caught dead doing otherwise.
Pulling rabbits from hats is beneath his skill, but it gets applause and a few extra coins in the bucket.
"Might I have a volunteer from the audience?" he asks, dragging a stool center stage. Then, he takes a deck of cards from the pocket of his long~

The audience was small. They were practically giving away tickets just to fill a few seats.
But it was a start.
And it was a way to keep a roof over his head. Even if he has to perform the more kitchy but audience-appealing tricks~
"Most of us try to use it for good," he comments, taking a sip of his drink. "Not all. But I am sure you have encountered them, too."
Or at least the evil spirits who cling to wayward witches and even a few of the good ones.
~ flashing fangs at him, all bets would be off.
"Yeah," he replies with as much politeness as he can muster as he leans over to press the emergency call button. "Sucks. Thankfully, I'm not in a hurry to get somewhere. You?"
Alright, that is mildly provoking.
~ the nails . . .
Being raised /knowing/ he is from a family of witches, Renz also was raised to understand the creatures who would try to destroy him.
Vampires being high on that list.
He would be cordial for now. No use provoking a fight in closed quarters. But the moment that creature starts~
Perhaps, luckily for the vampire, the elevator is not a glass one. Sunrise or no, he would be safe inside of it.
The human with him would be another matter.
Then again, said human has ways of defending himself. One of those ways is simply knowing the signs. Those eyes the man tries to hide . . . ~
He does know how to read.
He will add “inability to understand sarcasm” to the list of irredeemable vampire traits.
Ooh. A scathing insult.
Should he cry?
*does magical things*
💤
Glad to hear it.
“How much do you know about magic?” Renz ask with a chuckle.
He knows a little about her family’s gem, and that seems magical to him. Anything that can do what it does to monsters has to be.
“Then I would have to do whatever it takes to protect humans.”
For every action, an equal and opposite reaction.

“A human is not a zebra. But it /does/ matter if you do not kill anymore. That’s a good thing.”
He isn’t entirely unreasonable.
“We don’t kill /people/. But if it makes you feel better, I will consider becoming a vegan. What you do is not the same.”
“Probably not. I haven’t met anyone I wanted to have children with.”
Plus danger. It’s constant.
“I have a big family. They don’t need me to keep it going.”
“Seems like a reasonable middle ground to me. You live, and there are a few less vampires brought into existence. Why would you even want to make more?”
“Our abilities do not come from the same place. I am human. You are not. Vampires should not exist. /Perhaps/ if you agreed not to make any more, we could compromise.”
He raises a brow.
“Common ground?”
He’s not sure how he feels about comparisons.
“Are you trying to impress me? It is unseemly.”
If you call a disease “inheritance,” sure.
Inherited gifts are like that.
Seems she hasn’t met many witches.
Now who is being the overly confident one?
