The first movie let us know what we were in for. For better or worse, the second movie did it better. Nintendo stans, rejoice

Very few shoehorned pop songs, no Jack Black song, no extraneous backstory made up for the movie, Yoshi didn’t say 6-7… it’s a simple premise. Rescue princess. It uses a canon mechanism to tie it together. It involves the characters you know to achieve the goal.

I 100% agree with this and will add: I personally thought it showed INCREDIBLE restraint being an Illuminations movie. Do you need 40 years of backstory of Nintendo properties to kind of connect the dots? Yes. But it didn’t have almost any of the stuff I hated in the first flick
