IMO the isekai genre is broadly boiled down to, “but what if the WORLD was actually wrong” and removes any need for the main character to develop or grow, instead reframing their failures or inadequacies in their previous world as things that work for the protagonist in this new world
Whereas male-targeted isekai are often about how this skill or ability they have that was useless in their old world is now super-powerful and they use that to seize the day in their new world to grow and change the world around them)
(It’s also striking to me that isekai targeted towards women tend to be about the lack of opportunity the MC experienced in their original world, and that they almost universally seize the day in their new world to grow and change themselves
I know there are many isekai genre items that buck this trend but they’re notable for the fact that they do buck it
