This week I achieved a personal and professional goal that I long-feared was beyond my grasp - I started the Fall semester on the tenure-track! I'm thrilled to share that I've accepted a position in the Department of Educational Leadership, Research & Technology at Western Michigan University!
I do live here - my district is right next to Jordan’s. To what extent the media ecosystem prevents this type of knowledge from dissemination is debatable, but iDan’s larger point is true. Despite everything that Trump and Vance did to Springfield, the country still went 65% Trump.
This assumes 1) that dems have power again and the ability to exercise this power, and 2) that dems will let go of their compulsion of responsible governance despite the politics of opportunity.
1) seems likely, but 2) doesn’t. There will act like grown ups to their own detriment. It’s their DNA

I'm sorry to hear this, Dan. A good friend of mine committed suicide in March of 2009. In some ways, I don't think our friend group ever fully recovered.

I started integrating boards into my administration course for this reason - expressions of power take different forms, and while not often as salient for day-to-day practitioners, understanding the actual levers of organizational power is crucial.
This implies a level of strategy. They are also arsonists and might just burn it down for their sadistic pleasure.
Jobs on the line, you will see less pushback from faculty, staff, and students as college administrators implement more of the administration's policy preferences.
I do wonder if payments will eventually come in the fall - uncertainty can breed overcompliance and self-regulation in a way that destruction can not. They withhold the first round of payments and throw institutions into a fiscal crisis.
All you have to do is look at the President's social media post this morning to see that the pretext is already being constructed. Not that they really need it - it seems increasingly clear that payments to institutions will not go through on their regular timelines.
The pretense begins, not that that they really needed it.
Aid will not be released in the fall, at least not at its regularly scheduled intervals. To pretend otherwise is an emotional cope...

The short-term harm, coupled with the long-term uncertainty from term to term, accomplishes their goals. Uncertainty almost breeds more compliance than destruction.
Unless things drastically change between now and the fall, assuming that there will be no federal aid at the beginning of the term is more than prudent. It almost feels inevitable. This doesn't mean that aid wouldn't be released by the end of the term - but that won't matter.
I shared this sentiment with a student in my public policy course who is looking at tenure for their class project. It’s an implicit negotiation between competency and bad-faith cruelty.

Dr. Dynarski - do you have a good resource that breaks down various funding sources to IHEs via research grants from various federal agencies? I'd like to share this with my finance students - as I've spoken to this revenue stream at a non-descript level. I think raw numbers would be beneficial...

Further research needs to investigate the extent of these salary discrepancies and why CC students who earn bachelor's degree are making less than their peers with similar credentials.
While CC recipients gradated with less loan debt, they were making less salary than their peers who exclusively attended a four-year institution, even when considering demographic background and academic pathways/majors.
