An image of the card "The Fool" from the Rider-Waite tarot deck. The art style is reminiscent of medieval drawings. A man in a brightly patterned tunic stands on the edge of a cliff, holding a stick with a bag on the end in one hand and a flower in the other. A small white dog prances at his feet. The background shows a yellow sky with a sun in the corner above what appears to be a mountain range. The number 0 is shown in the top center of the card, and the text THE FOOL is written across the bottom.

Code Mode: the better way to use MCP It turns out we've all been using MCP wrong. Most agents today use MCP by exposing the

@cloudflare.social has code mode which is similar: blog.cloudflare.com/code-mode/

This is a mix of using mcp tools and then the agent writing its own code to get you the answer. The speed up is achieved by giving the agent a sandbox to execute that code, instead of the requirement of spinning up a container to run that code.

1 month ago 0 0 1 0

The agent then uses the mcp to get search for bike rides from 2025. It then writes a script to run, along with the data and passes it to a method that runs monty to then run that code and return the result or raise an exception.

Exploring @pydantic.dev monty with my strava mcp server. I understand the value of having a readily available code runner for the agent. Since agents are trained to generate code and interpret output, they can answer questions like - "what was my highest speed in cycling in 2025? which ride?"
