Artemis II Crew Turns Emotional During First Words After Return
Artemis II Crew Turns Emotional During First Words After Return YouTube video by Scientia Plus

First reflections from Christina Koch (starting at ~10:00 minute mark): just beautiful! I hope there is a transcript at some point. I think it might fit in a HS ELA curriculum. Story of start & end of voyage. The meaning of a “crew” & how she connects it all at the end! 🌏

My favorite commentary was from astronaut Dr. Mae Jemison, who said missions are so much more than STEM, and how the humanities help connect us to wondering about the sky. Also love how she explained the global cooperation, such as the European Service Module on this mission.

Listening to this description live was incredible, as well as descriptions of the plateau with greenish hues and highlands with brownish shades. 🌘

OK this is cool. The first time humans have seen the whole Mare Orientale on the far side of the Moon with their own eyes. See flic.kr/p/2s5HA2X 🧪🔭

I was student teaching. We were watching it live with 5th graders. My mentor teacher handled it incredibly well. Today’s launch, agree - felt like I was holding my breath.

Hmmmm how can I add this to my Meteorology unit? 🧐 Nothing better than Science x History cross-curricular. Also could add this to the Ken Burns American Revolution episode clip with the Great Hurricane of 1780 impact on British war ships.

What a terrific course! We study sea level rise in our Gr 8 Massachusetts curriculum. Each year we have a mini-project where student groups choose a location anywhere in the world to research SLR & solutions. I’ve had groups choose Tybee Island. Thanks for sharing photos!

📍 Northern Hemisphere
📅 Feb 18–19: The Moon passes Mercury and Saturn, low in the western sky at dusk. You’ll need a clear view to the horizon to spot them.
