I had a smashing day today presenting WW1 trench life to Y8 children at Aurora Eccles School in south Norfolk.

Everyone was a joy to work with, and we even got to sing the 1915 song 'Goodbye-ee' at the end of each session!

Today I had an interesting and varied 'Victorian' day working at Lynn Museum and Stories of Lynn: this morning as a merchant seaman and this afternoon portraying a circus showman.

Great to wear my new Gansey and comfy pinwheel hat with waterproof cover!

Here's a (very) short video showing me blank-firing my replica 1642 pattern matchlock musket as part of a recent English Civil War presentation for Yr8 at Langley Prep School.

We had such a good morning and it was great to finish it with a bang!

Last week I presented Home Guard sessions to Home Educators' groups at Gressenhall Farm & Workhouse as part of their WW2 Home Front day.

We had a brilliant time learning in the sunshine!

I haven't done this impression for a while...

Army recruiting sergeant for the Norfolk Regiment, 1914: part of a First World War living history scenario which took place at Gressenhall Farm & Workhouse in August 2014.

I've just discovered this photo, from the Lynn News back in February, showing a Victorian Fairground session taking place at Lynn Museum.

Children are always fascinated by the model carousel, and we discussed the work of local entrepreneur Frederick Savage.

First time out for my original WW2 Air Raid Precautions/Civil Defence battledress uniform at Whitwell and Reepham Station's 1940s day yesterday.

Here with my chum Mark Taylor, who was portraying a member of the Air Transport Auxiliary.

Same principle: they were worn by the Romans until Norman times.
Vikings called them winingas and they're quite stretchy, which helps to keep them in place.
Warm, comfortable, supportive and prevent scratches from thorns, brambles etc.
Puttees were made differently and are hard to find nowadays.

Here's a short video of the Viking boat-burning event last evening at Sheringham: my new Viking group, Ordgar, (along with other groups) made me very welcome and it was altogether a joyful experience!

I was in Malta last week and the biggest surprise was the armoury of the Knights of St John in the Grand Master's Palace in Valletta.

All items date from the 15th-17thC and my photos really don't do the collection justice!

A blast from the past from the courtroom cafรฉ at St Alban's Museum...

Here being the gaoler helping to run trial sessions in the courtroom 8 years ago, despite it being full of cafe customers: a real challenge and great fun, with Time Will Tell Theatre.

Happy World Theatre Day!

Here's a reminder of Time Will Theatre's performances, at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, of a play about food in Nelson's Navy.

Kathy Hipperson and myself had a lot of fun!

Love this, rather conspiratorial, image showing the gatekeepers at Kentwell Hall in 1536... well, actually last year!

I won't be attending at Easter but will be there for most of their other Tudor and multi-period living history events throughout the year.

Something different today!

I worked with the education team at Gressenhall Farm & Workhouse presenting a 1950s-themed day for YrR and Yr1 from Hillside Avenue Primary School.

It was good to be back as schoolmaster in the Victorian schoolroom again!

Great feedback!:

"My son LOVED the Roman Workshop you had recently. The person was so engaging. He has read numerous Roman books since then and has drawn the red shield he brought along numerous times! I also see you have a whole range of exciting workshops planned for the rest of the year...!"

There's a free Home Educators' Iron Age workshop, including a live theatre performance, taking place at Lynn Museum on Wednesday 29th April, 10am-2.30pm.

I'm looking forward to working on aspects of Celtic life for a change!
