It's good to be able to change your mind when presented with an argument that shatters your belief. The LLM was probably right...

And I'd say the same if I lived in China.

I'd rather the tyrannical government over there than the tyrannical government over here...

No useful purpose for whom? Your big tech and AIPAC donors?

You didn't get the AI booster memo? The "normal ML" that we've liked for so long already is now called "AI" and we need to throw more money at LLM chatbots because we all love AI! AI is awesome!

Clearly the poster meant chatbot output when they said Gen AI. You are the one shifting the goalposts by playing these definition games by saying "this [highly specialized] protein folding AI algorithm is good" which nobody is debating.

This isn't about biases and mistakes of programmers. It's about the limitations of probabilistic Large Language Models which essentially are fancy autocomplete machines, and the deceptive marketing of it as "artificial intelligence". The algorithms ironically do not even attempt to "grok".

When the NIH loses even more funding, maybe all that will be left of this sequence are remnants in some data center somewhere. Then AI will save us!

@grok is this true?

stream of consciousness from uber genius must be accepted caps or not

Investment growth has been treated as some sort of law of physics where it just has to happen and these are sometimes the only avenues left that look enticing to people in that regard. The dotcom bubble was investing in a real thing of huge value due to its eventual adoption, not similar...

Crypto has a ton of market cap and it's useless other than as an instrument of speculation. It's so useless that people are hyping each other up about coins pegged to a declining currency (USD). Yet the flow of money isn't stopping.

Crypto shows what I am talking about. I am convinced that we are in an insane world where people are chasing growth in things they don't understand by outbidding each other ("greater fools") because the actual US economy is stagnant. The model of being control center of the world is fallible.

The thing is the hype just doesn't meet the demand. "Progress" is often times basically showing off a new chatbot to investors, many of whom aren't tech wizards. There is barely a "there" there. It's more just relentlessly hawking LLMs that supposedly act human because it's worked so far.

It's also the "growth" chasing investment class who are eyebrow deep in this stuff. And as we see in something actually useless like crypto, they aren't quick to give up.

I'm generally with you here, just think this is the wrong angle. This has been one of the greatest marketing scams ever and they're not going to turn off the thing that got rich boomers to fling money at them for hopes and dreams of sci-fi "AGI" and even gets casual subscribers to stick around.

I don't get the big deal. Part of what makes the product appealing to people is that it feels somewhat human. Not spending the extra to keep up the vibes would be enshittifying the product. Their business would be nothing without providing something resembling the "human experience".

Yes I woke up from my slumber to buy as many shares as I could of Walz at 2 cents and still have an order in on Kalshi to buy more. My 2 cents are all in on him for now at that price.

My 2 cents on the 2028 Dem primaries: it seems crazy that in these times, that there's two people: one, who is 20 points underwater and is chatting amicably with Bannon and Tucker, and another who brought both flanks together as VP nom and is saying Dems should fight, and the latter is at 2 cents.

I have my issues with Tulsi and don't find her capable for the job but certain people are making it hard for me not to defend her against their mudslinging. It would seem her opposition demands stubborn orthodoxy in only seeing conflicts from one side, a mindset which is far more dangerous.

I just realized that Mike Rogers refers to a blob that split into two; one half drifted off to Alabama and one to Michigan. It's the Alabama one which may be Defense Secretary if Hegseth goes down.

‘Woke’ didn’t lose the US election: the patrician class who hijacked identity politics did | Nesrine Malik Why is this simple explanation being so widely embraced? Because it does not require a commitment to real, structural change, says Guardian columnist Nesrine Malik

Perhaps the Trump admin will be more lax than the Biden admin though. Either way Kalshi does seem better than PredictIt in terms of fees, limits, market selection and whatnot, but at the moment just not as fun.

Hello everyone. Does anyone have intel on PredictIt's next steps? Please let me know if you do.

Otherwise I do have a Kalshi account so I'll probably be seeing you over there. I've made all of $45 profit so far but gotta start somewhere!
