Ditto for Birmingham's "Road Safety Emergency" Declaration.

They even withdrew #MayarYahiaSquare because some car owners said they didn't want to endure a 45 second detour.

Ep. 10 – City of Cars – Birmingham’s road trauma on film Host Kevin Carmody interviews documentary maker Sarah Chaundler. She spent 18 months following Better Streets for Birmingham and captured the lives of many people who were impacted by loss on our road...

The film City of Cars is a harrowing view into Birmingham's car dominated streets.

This weeks podcast, I talk with the film's maker @sarahchaundler.bsky.social about what went in to making it.

European country vows to give homeowners ‘free electricity' instead of switching off wind turbines

European country vows to give homeowners ‘free electricity' instead of switching off wind turbines

@lbc.co.uk
“Sometimes there is too much wind for our outdated grid to handle, especially in Scotland & East of England. Rather than paying wind farms to switch off we’re trialling a new system where people who live near these constrained areas get cheaper ,or even free, electricity.”

Speed cushions are rarely the answer. They're a quick fuss-free measure, so are an easier sell to politicians. It looks like they're doing something when in fact they're not. Especially in the age of #CarSpreading.

We'll be making this point to all contactable councillor candidates shortly.

The cheapest petrol is the petrol you don't use.

As fuel prices rise once again, it could be a good time to consider switching to an e-bike, as these ads at pumps in Bristol suggested.

By reclaiming public space from cars (ie. following the lead of Paris), cities could play such an important role in slowing the war machine.

If we made the green energy transition this war would be unthinkable and these authoritarians wouldn’t be in power — not in the US, not in Iran, not in Saudi Arabia, not in Russia. Hydrocarbons are killing our freedom and just plain killing us.

That that conversation has been largely absent from UK media while nonsense like this is published shows just how much the media ownership tail is now waging the dog

A vertical bar chart titled “London has one of the lowest rate of road traffic deaths in the world.” The chart compares average road‑traffic deaths per 100,000 daytime population for multiple international cities from 2018–2020. Bars run horizontally from 0 to 8 on the x‑axis. At the top of the chart, Oslo has the lowest value, followed by Inner London highlighted in yellow at 0.8, then Zurich, Copenhagen, Stockholm, and Greater London highlighted in yellow at 1.1. Below these are Brussels, Bristol, Barcelona, Dublin, Montreal, Paris, Edmonton, Calgary, Warsaw, Milan, Vancouver, Greater Manchester, Lisbon, Melbourne, New York City, Auckland, Buenos Aires, Accra, Rome, Bogotá, Belgrade, Guadalajara, São Paulo, and Fortaleza. Cities at the bottom of the chart show the highest values, approaching 8. London is proving that sustained action on road safety delivers real change.

By investing in better junctions, safer speeds and HGV safety standards, we’re building a city you can move around with confidence.

Low rates are a start, but our goal is zero. Because every journey should end safely.

Just fascinating to see Blair, a man whose reputation was ruined by the Iraq war, advocate joining a war that is exponentially stupider and more chaotic. How is it possible to learn nothing from the worst mistake of your life?
