A WIRED investigation has identified multiple members of the paramilitary units behind some of the most egregious immigration enforcement actions of the last year. from @awinston.bsky.social and @regret.bsky.social
one of my key objections to this tech is it's "anti-computing", it's a deployment of catastrophic amounts of brute force to do things that either should not be done, or can be accomplished by much simpler means
New today: @reveleth.com has spent over 10 years obsessed with so-called “gender verification” tests. Proponents claim they have history and science on their side. They don’t. www.coyotemedia.org/the-olympics...
I'm re-listening to the entirety of @djrupture.bsky.social Mudd Up! show on WFMU (2007-2013) from the beginning; it's impossible to exaggerate how big an influence this show was on my musical taste. www.wfmu.org/playlists/DR

California residents are now being sent to prison for shoplifting.
In the first year of Prop 36, shoplifters have been charged with felonies + imprisoned for stealing diapers, hygiene supplies, a $13 belt, groceries and soda.
DAs filed 15,000+ felonies for thefts previously treated as misdemeanors
“Both women had three prior C-sections… And both women are Black.
They had argued that compelling them to have C-sections violated their rights to make medical decisions. Hospital staff said their medical decisions threatened the health of the fetus. It would be up to the courts to decide”
I don’t think we should categorize examples where these systems are used by individuals for stalking or harassment as “misuse” of the technology. This is very much literally why the tech exists, and there are no meaningful ways these uses are prohibited.

I consider this a loss rather than a win, as just a few years ago the redline was any military use, now it’s the most extreme use case of LAWS. AI companies have successfully moved safety thresholds without effective internal pushback.

If you, like me, have Peacock for a limited time so you can watch the Olympics and Paralympics, give yourself the gift of watching We Are Lady Parts as many times as possible before you cancel your subscription. We Are Lady Parts. Just over and over again. Your life will improve.
The Nazi tattoo, like Rahm’s candidacy, and Newsom’s podcast, are all different variations of the same message.
This isn’t new news as such, but people keep being surprised by it, so it’s worth repeating. Substack hosts, profits from, and promotes explicitly Nazi content, and if you are adding value to that network, you are helping them to do so. www.theguardian.com/media/2026/f...
Can you share some recent examples of "AI will go away on its own" or "it doesn't work and is fake" criticism?
Correction: This story originally misstated the book's title. The book is called "I Need a New Butt!," not "l Have a New Butt!" We apologize for the error.

USDS/DOGE’s tools will never dismantle USDS/DOGE’s house.
DOGE could *only exist* via the unaccountable pathways forged by USDS. Those gaps need to be filled & corrected. We don’t need a different Project 2025 (tech edition), we need a functioning democracy.
