Congrats to Ge Group undergrad Colin Raddant who was selected as one of the inaugural recipients of the UNCC Scholarly Undergraduate Research Grants (SURG)! Colin is applying for graduate programs this fall, so keep an eye out for his application 👀

Going to a conference and hope someone posts about your talk? Make it easy for the posters!!
Tips:
1. Include your handle at beginning and end
2. Make clear what is published/not
3. Have a conclusions slide with key message
4. Highlight new preprint or publication if relevant

Celebrating another productive summer with a lab food crawl in uptown Charlotte! @charlottechemistry.bsky.social
🧪 UPDATE: All 63 House appropriators will meet **this Thursday** about science funding levels.
They'll deliberate on the proposed multi-billion dollar cut to NSF's budget ($9.0B --> $7.0B).
If you think that's bad for our country, here's who to call: appropriations.house.gov/about/member...
We heard directly from more than 150 researchers, scientists and investigators about their terminated NIH grants and the science that’s being lost. Full story ⤵️
🎓 Recent STEM grad? Jump-start your PhD journey with Amgen’s new 2-yr paid Postbaccalaureate Research Fellowship in Thousand Oaks! Work with world-class scientists, publish your findings, and make a real impact for patients.

As someone who has definitely taken suggestions and borrowed materials from your lab handbook this award is well deserved - congrats!
Some of your favorite Chemistry faculty members getting ready to cheer on our graduating students. Congratulations to the class of 2025! We're proud of you all!
🫠
FYI: The Spencer Foundation, Kapor Foundation, The William T. Grant Foundation, and the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation have collaborated to offer $25K rapid response grants.
"This rapid response bridge funding opportunity is for scholars and teams whose grants have recently been cancelled by NSF."
Chemistry can be wet, messy, loud, and FUN! We love to see our chemistry students and faculty combining education and play during the annual UNCC STEAM Expo. #STEAMexpo #scienceoutreach #chemistrydemos
Congratulations to Dhairya Desai on completing his honors thesis presentation! #honorsstudent #undergraduateeresearch #levinescholar
It was a great pleasure to host Prof Jun Ohata of @ncstate.bsky.social for the final chemistry seminar of the semester!
Slightly belated, but I am proud of former ACS Project SEED student Alexanderpaul Olagbemiro who presented his summer work in Ge lab at the Yale Undergraduate Research Conference (YURC) earlier this month. Paul is now a rising sophomore at Morehouse College. #YURC #undergraduatereararch
🙏 We need your help 🙏
The government continues to cancel grants at both NIH and NSF to censor science it doesn't like.
We're tracking terminations to organize and advocate. Please report your terminated grants:

Dhairya and Colin’s posters make a second appearance at today’s UNC Charlotte Undergraduate Research Conference (URC). A lot of impressive undergraduate research happening here at Charlotte!
In addition to the wonderful things they accomplish while here, international students help our domestic students learn how to communicate and work across cultural boundaries.
We are all poorer for losing them as they choose not to come to or stay at our universities.🌏🌍🌎

Colin Raddant and Dhairya Desai representing the Ge group and UNC Charlotte at #NCUR!
Great news: NIH postbac program is recruiting again! If your grad school plans were affected by program cutbacks or admissions freezes this year I highly encourage you to apply, this could be a perfect opportunity. Please repost.

If you’re at NCUR, check out the posters from Ge Group undergraduates Dhairya Desai and Colin Raddant for some fun peptide chemistry! Posters #1172 and #1110 tomorrow! #undergraduateresearch #NCUR
I don’t know if it’s still there (pic from 2017), but we had this one in the radioactive room in my PhD lab. Apparently it got a new motor and motherboard in 1997 😂
Would love to be added!
Celebrating another semester in the bag!
For “what is chemical biology” I really like the 1987 Westheimer Science paper “Why nature chose phosphates”
Hey #ChemSky! I teach a primary-literature-based #ChemicalBiology course, and I'd like suggestions for updating the readings. Target audience is 1st-year PhDs and senior undergrads on their way to PhD. Each week I'll add another unit to the thread for your suggestions. Thanks for your help!!
