The victory of the opposition in Hungary yesterday, like the Polish election in 2023, is a victory for democracy, not just in Europe but around the world.

Exactly - I always say that the most important thing about a degree isn't memorising things, it's learning how to learn.

I don't use most of what I learnt in my astronomy degree on a day to day basis, even as a professional astronomer. But the independence & learning skills I gained are essential.

This work is made by the renowned Ukrainian artist Ivan Marchuk, who invented the unique painting style called "plyontanism" (from the Ukrainian word plyontaty, meaning "to braid"). This technique consists of hundreds of fine, intertwined lines that create depth and an almost textile-like texture.

Writing helps you organize and clarify your own thoughts.

When others read, it helps them do the same, whether they agree with you or not.

Both of us probably need the reminder a year from now.

This is why it’s valuable to write, even if your ideas aren’t unique.

Hi! Asking for your help!

We're trying to reach as many Indiana University Alums as possible. If you could share or even send this letter to any alumni you know, our group would really appreciate it.

There's a link to sign on to the pledge at the end of the letter.

GUEST COLUMN: A tradition worth fighting for: Restoring alumni voices to the IU board A bipartisan bill could restore what a last-minute budget provision took away.

IU alumni showed up for a national championship. Now let's show up for our university's future.

24 past IU Alumni Association chairs supporting bill to restore alumni-elected trustees Senate Bill 110 is publicly supported by 24 previous chairs of the IUAA.

I have yet to meet a single IU alumnus who is opposed to bringing back the three elected trustees. Restoring those seats has bipartisan support, and it's the right thing to do.

Pentagon wants a ‘refocus,’ but Stripes hasn’t wavered from its true mission

The ombudsman for Stars and Stripes, the deployed servicemember's paper of record, writes in its pages that the publication "is in peril of losing its editorial independence and becoming nothing more than a public relations arm of the Pentagon."

The latest Key Messages detail the latest information regarding the impending winter storm set to produce far-reaching impacts from the Southern Rockies to the Northeast. The top graphic displays the Probabilistic Winter Storm Severity Index which depicts the probabilities for experiencing at least Moderate Impacts. Moderate Impacts speak to potential for hazardous travel conditions and some infrastructure impacts. The bottom image shows, of those probabilistic areas, which winter weather hazard (snow or freezing rain) is the most likely hazard in that area.

High-Impact & Far-Reaching Winter Storm
A significant, long-duration winter storm is threatening over 160 million Americans with widespread heavy snow, sleet, and freezing rain from the Southern Rockies to New England, lasting from Friday through Monday. Extremely cold air will follow, prolonging dangerous travel and infrastructure impacts into next week.

Widespread Heavy Snow
Heavy snow is likely across a broad region from the Southern Rockies and Plains through the Mid-Atlantic and into the Northeast. Snowfall totals exceeding 12 inches are likely across the Ohio Valley, Mid-Atlantic, and Northeast. Widespread travel disruptions are likely.

Catastrophic Ice Accumulation
Widespread freezing rain and sleet are expected south of the primary snow axis, affecting parts of the Southern Plains, Lower Mississippi Valley, Tennessee Valley, the Southeast, and southern Virginia. Significant to locally catastrophic ice accumulations are likely, with the potential for long-duration power outages, extensive tree damage, and extremely dangerous or impassable travel conditions.

Extended Impacts
In wake of the storm, communities from the Southern Plains to the Northeast will contend with bitterly cold temperatures and dangerously cold wind chills. This will prolong hazardous travel and infrastructure impacts into next week. Preparations should be completed as soon as possible, & forecasts closely monitored for updates.

IU’s August 2024 expressive activity policy was unconstitutional, federal judge rules The lawsuit addressed the university’s expressive activity policy and trespass warnings.

The expressive activity policy was clearly unconstitutional from the start.

This is why it is critically important to hear the voices of students, faculty, and staff when making major university governance decisions.
