Professor Pacheco-Vega's website is one of the best places to access academic writing resources. Highly recommended for early career scholars, and oldtimers like me, too!

Just horrifying to watch once excellent universities voluntarily destroying themselves.

"We must become less reliant on American tools and regain control of our digital destiny. We can no longer accept that our data, our infrastructure, our strategic decisions depend on solutions whose rules, pricing, evolution, and risks we do not control."
Any predictions on voter turnout for this year's civic elections in Vancouver? It feels like there will be more well-known candidates for mayor than has been the case in recent elections.
Vance is pretty much the one person in the admin that Trump cannot simply get rid of. That is very funny.
Canada and others are pursuing mRNA research which will lead to new vaccines against infections and diseases like cancer. At some point, unless this pig ignorance of science is reversed, there will be massive unmet demand in the US.

It was awful enough during his first term, but the insistence of the news media to treat Trump press conferences as if they are normal press conferences is one of the reasons the United States is not a democracy anymore. No reaction from journalists to outright lies and unbelievable statements.
Odd system to choose not to have a back-up for.
1. We should not be letting AI companies decide the future of our societies.
2. Which governments are taking seriously the impact AI will have on our societies?
3. We're not prepared for the changes that will come.
Excellent piece.

The fastest and most effective way to undermine science is to deprecate the quality of peer review. If this is not scientifically driven/overseen, it results in loss of confidence. Researchers are used to suffering limited funding aned low success rates. They can’t handle random influences.
