jealous!
Never got to see them first time around and in retrospect was very lucky to catch them while I could. I’m sure you feel the same!

Picture of ticket for the Go-Betweens at the Barbican Hall, 27 June 2004. The gig was preceded by a Go-Betweens film, and later released as a CD, "The Go-Betweens Live In London".
We were there!
But I've not seen that before - quite the artefact
This is really exciting for us, thank you! 🙏
Mackenzies "NeW bReeD" (zron 9) - incredible 7" single from yesteryear on Ron Johnson Records. Later sampled on a bis single, iirc
Or even "New Breed", sorry!
Had a Go Betweens-related brainfade there...
Did you see that the latest Mackenzies single is a(n excellent) reworking of their C86 belter “Big Jim?” 🔥
Now retitled as “The State I’m In”. Forty years on, blimey.
Off to find my copy of “Rare Breed” next!
The Falcon recording sounds good - brisk, bright & jangly! Nothing limp about that one, and in retrospect something of a JDDE greatest hits set 👍
Gosh, had no idea. Three fine bands, and thanks for sharing that memorabilia!
(A couple of those reviews are somewhat uncharitable 😡)
so, on the night, technically a supergroup
Remembered that the Granny Get Your Gun! review of the Hampstead gig mentions that JDDE roped in This Poison's drummer as a stand-in @riproaringstuff.bsky.social
on a revival tip:
Thank you 😊 Done a few ‘old albums’ posts on here recently but in reality there’s no substitute for the inspiring music that’s coming out in real time, all the time.
You’d know because you helped release one of these of course!
A magnificent seven of sorts: Pugilist “Waveforms 19-20” (Waveforms, 10” single) Low End Activist “Fake Idols” (ft. Tia Talks) / “Atomic Clock” (ft. Jammz) (Sneaker Social Club, 12”) Fran Carlyon “Home Truths” (YYZ, CD-EP) Holsten “Burn EP” (Droogs, 12”) The Would-be-Goods “Tears Before Bedtime” (Skep Wax, CD) The Kitchenettes “Sunday Best” (Galaxy Train / Slumberland / Meritorio, 7”) Blackpink “Deadline” (YG Entertainment, CD – Jennie version)
some 2026 product in heavy rotation #newmusic #nowplaying
On this song we tell it like it is, like it was, like it could be. A crow harasses a hawk (true), a band tussles with a promoter (it has happened) & starts to wonder: if a Beatle is not a Beat(nik) and a Monkee is not (necessarily) a monk then what kind of beast are we anyway?
OK, it's official, my new album We Live In Hope will be out 8/5/26 😃
Pre-order on Bandcamp from 1/5/26 and get exclusive early access to 2 new tracks, Hustle and Progress.
Digital download, limited edition CD or streaming.
Aswad's self-titled debut album from 1976 (original on Island Records, this was the later Island Masters re-issue). Starts with "I A Rebel Soul", one of my favourite songs of the era, and the other seven tracks include versions of all 4 from their brilliant 1976 Peel Session.
Pure bliss, from '76 #5DebutAlbums7579
I have that Vaselines/Rosslyns result down as a firm moral win for the principle that our beloved genre runs gloriously deep. Rosslyns forever!
Picture of Chas & Dave's "One Fing 'N' Anuvver" (the Castle Music CD reissue). Originally released in September 1975 on Retreat. An incredible combo, then and for decades afterwards. We'd kill for the gorgeousness of songs like "The Ballad of the Rich", and it also features a much more laidback version of what would become their novelty-ish hit "Gertcha" (at the time, monikered "Woortcha!")
Fully expect my 5 to be mostly punk and reggae ofc yet this was genuinely the first (and a brilliant) album that came to mind #5DebutAlbums7579
So kind thank you.
Honestly although 80% of what I listen to now is def not indie-pop, this sort of thing (and your excellent radio show) brings it all back and you start to fall in love with it all over again.
Come together! 👊
We definitely lost to the better team!
Still honoured and delighted to be nominated AND to squeeze through the Q/Fs - thanks again to @assistant.bandcamp.com and of course @indiepophalloffame.bsky.social
❤️
These two are all the proof you need of the life affirming qualities of jangly lofi indie.
Still a 2 for me for the mighty @therosslyns.bsky.social
Picture of Halkyn's only records - though they did appear on a couple of 555 compilation CDs with equally brilliant tracks. The two 7"s are "Behind The Snow" (3 tracks, with the wonderful "Norway" on the A) and "Winterhill" a few years later (10 tracks in all). Both released on 555 Recordings of Leeds though the first, mysteriously, was also on Umbababayee - Umbababayee Mullet 04.
And also Halkyn, who allegedly have a comp coming soon...
Here are the two Halkyn 7"s, on 555 Recordings. Just listening now: there was always something very special in their sparse, fragile songs.
One is I think just a little but over-rated, the other criminally under-rated… i’ll go @therosslyns.bsky.social
I’m voting for The Rosslyns please (although of course love both songs) 😃
A classic song from The Vaselines makes this an exceptionally tough round for The Rosslyns but I am voting with my heart. Number 2 from the Assistant groop.
Picture of Miaow's "When It All Comes Down (Catechism)" 12", on Factory Records.
In the end, this one. Extremely glad that it was kept apart from the Vaselines in the semis...
Picture of the Vaselines' "All The Stuff And More..." compilation CD and the Rosslyns' "All We Ever Did Was Try" compilation CD. "Son of A Gun" is still my favourite Vaselines song and thanks to Ryan O at school for first introducing me to it and letting me borrow the 12" about a hundred years ago!
I mean I hold something of a torch for both songs, but my mum wants me to vote 2️⃣, so... 🤷♂️
Mind you, she also prefers Assistant's version 😉
(Can identify)
fantastic. I’m sure we’ll catch up sooner rather than later.
But yes, pub prices round here are not for the faint of heart!
Wow, thank you for that. A nice boost for us. It means a lot to me, and to my co-writer! 😊
Ah Kenny, you’re a legend.
We'd managed to completely forget the song existed for 30 years, so thank you so much for such a kind comment! #harrietrecords #solidarity
