When you submit to one of our writing challenges, you'll hear back within 2-4 weeks of contest close dates. That's partially because of our monthly contest schedule, and partially because our EIC once waited a year to get a decision on a piece, and that's just bananas.

I am not interested in being a person on Instagram, doing collaborative posts with people or filming myself talking to the camera. I want to be a person who fucks off away from the noise and works hard and writes better and better books for the rest of his life and then dies. Why is that not ok?
A Cat With a Wooden Leg Pat McGrath possesses a very remarkable feline. His cat was born with only three legs, and as soon as the kitten became large enough to leave its mother, Pat constructed a wooden leg and successfully adjusted it to the little stump that grew out where poor pussy’s fourth leg ought to have been. Pussy now trots along on four legs with as much ease and comfort, apparently, as though the wooden limb had been placed there by Nature. But here is the really wonderful part of the story: Instead of killing rats and mice with her claws, as cats usually do, pussy has learned to use her club leg for this purpose, and it is said to be a very amusing sight to see her run up to a rat and knock him into insensibility with her wooden leg.
It is, allegedly, the 136th anniversary of a news story whose last line I don’t think you’ll be able to predict appearing in the Woodford (Kentucky) Sun
Excited to share our new findings in @science.org on how the DRT3 bacterial defense system uses a reverse transcriptase that builds DNA repeats without a nucleic acid template. Microbes never cease to amaze!

F-15 WSO recovered alive. Was escaping and evading. Massive fire fight on tgt. Iranians were actively looking for him in the area.
Just scrolled past a post that said, "Please stop anthropomorphizing other people!" and I'm starting to think that dictionaries should be distributed free the way phone books used to be. Words have meaning, y'all. That's kind of how language works.
A photo of a dog from about their waist up. They appear to be standing. He looks very serious.

How I read your posts on the weekend:
Very exciting. There’s still many new fungi yet to be identified and recorded in the UK and the more who get into the subject, the more will be found, plus a greater public awareness of the importance of habitat preservation.
Help Wanted!
Anyone know of contemporary contrapuntal poems treating Narcissus and Echo (other than Fred Chappell's)? Looking for samples for a workshop.

This movie opens April 10 in NY and LA and then goes wider drip by drip. A career high for me and such a joy to work with these incredible actors.

#MedievalSky I received a very important announcement today. Feminae, the bibliographical database on medieval women created and run by Margaret Schaus for the past couple of decades, is going offline as of 1 April. Download as much as you can ASAP: inpress.lib.uiowa.edu/Feminae/Adva...
Tonight I learned that E.L. Doctorow wrote a screenplay for Ragtime that ran one thousand pages.
Would read.
Boze the Library Owl posted: "Why are folks getting dumber?" Because they don't read. "Why aren't men as romantic & poetic as they used to be?" Because they don't read. "Why are people so vulnerable to propaganda?" "Why is everyone a conspiracy theorist?" Because they don't read. Because they don't read. "As the literacy rate declines, you'll ask yourself why the quality of life continues to deteriorate in ways large and small, and in almost every instance the answer will be: because people stopped reading.
The best thing you can do for yourself is read. Lots of things. A wide variety of things.
The best thing you can do for others is encourage them to read. Lots of things. A wide variety of things.
Support your local libraries, and your local independent bookstores. Make reading a habit.
So, um... this is bad. Really bad. I looked at the letters that were translated by the AI, and the very first one I found was almost entirely hallucination. Thread:
