(instead, I called my book "Eejit" and then sat back and let the royalties fly by)

Maybe "what a weird combo, I'm gonna check it out" is the best result this formula can hope for? I know I was never exactly inspired by GRRM's titles, I just read the books because everyone on Usenet was talking about them!

My sci-fi series is centred around humans trying to fit in with a more advanced alien union which also includes a species of huge cybernetic sharks. The aliens call their new alliance "the dance of sharks and monkeys" but I would never dare to make it a book title.

*wistful*

Reminder that in this house we do not trash other genres of books to support the genre we like the most. One, come on, we're grown ups. Two, the bottom line is people reading and loving books. Three, every writer you know has friends working other genres, don't trash their friends, thanks.

I don't know about best episode, I'll plus-one on a House of Quark vote. But his best line was his last line regarding Odo: "That man loves me. Couldn't you see? It was written all over his back."

Yup. Also, leaving out issues of plagiarism, etc, one relevant question for many creatives is "why introduce into my workflow a purported tool that will add friction and slow things down." If you have skills and a method that works for you, "AI" is generally a drag, not a boost. Time is precious.

Trying to decide if I can be bothered putting together a blog post about any of this dumb crap but I think this will do quite nicely. The movie was fun!

Last chance to get in on a groovy Kickstarter! Is "groovy" the word I'm looking for here? Sure, why not.

The ability to buy anything on account of having too much money wrecks a person's brain just like a zero-gravity environment destroys muscle mass and bone density.

Human bodies are designed for resistance and they liquefy rapidly without it.

This book is the work of human hands and human brains.
The author does not use “artificial intelligence”, genAI or large language model theft
technology. The author does not give permission for corporations or billionaires to steal his
work and put it in their disgusting plagiarism machines. Not that this will stop them, because
they’re psychopathic garbage in human form. But the author wanted it on the record.

God damn right.

This is true, but [bla bla bla lore] I always got a "torment nexus" vibe from the way this company went with *that* name.

It doesn't take much to make an author's day. Drop a review (on Tainted Throne, just for example). Happy for you, Dylan 🎉

Sad to see, and a very good read (if one can say so about something so painful). Thanks for sharing it.

I'm also in the uncomfortable stage of "there is no ethical consumption under capitalism" but my country only has a fraction of the entertainment offering the US does. So this one isn't an issue.

I don't have an anus and my first book is actually an autobiography about why.

It's the Walking Dead "Coral" meme with a guy telling a kid some kind of dad joke while crying, I haven't seen the show so I don't actually know who they are. The kid's name is Carl I guess, or maybe it's actually Coral. Weird. Anyway the top text reads "guess there was no spark there" and the bottom text reads "NO SPARK CORAL". Post-modern stuff.

I love a good genre-bending story and sci-fi / fantasy is absolutely my jam. Get in on this kickstarter and show a fellow indie some love!

"Drag Race meets a gay Game of Thrones meets Chronicles of Amber" is just ... yep, that's certainly a statement.

I'm not sure how voguing and drag work as forms of sci-magic, but I guess there's only one way to find out!

It's only been 4 days, and we're already at 60% of our goal! If you're into friendship-centered science-fiction and fantasy, be sure you grab this 37-book itchio bundle. You only got *checks watch* 10 more days to go!

...I guess you've got time.

A photograph of a bookshelf crowded with haphazardly-stacked paperbacks, mostly Iain M Banks sci-fi but there is also Firefall by Peter Watts and a wonderful Duckett and Dyer trilogy by the great G M Nair.

Unprompted bookshelf reveal (or at least a fraction of a fraction of a bookshelf reveal). As you can see, nothing but classics here.

Thank you for putting "(primarily fantasy..." in parentheses there, I was halfway through your introduction and worrying I had somehow missed out on the queer disabled transmasc butch SFF subgenre, which sounds fucking amazing. Great to meet you Finn!

That works out nicely, because Finland's current government just decided that we can take slightly less than a fifth of an immigrant this year.

I'm not guilty of this (I'm not! Really!), but it is a timely reminder for me (and maybe others) to go through your con loot and follow up on those impulse snatches - and the more talented and eye-catching the promo material, the harder you should follow up on it because creatives deserve it.

Grinny (Puffin Books) Great Aunt Emma is no ordinary old lady. But why is she…

I just watched it too! It was cool and creepy, but up to about the last 15 minutes of it I thought it was a film adaptation of a book I read when I was a kid: "Grinny", by Nicholas Fisk. You ever read it?

"Weapons" veered away from sci-fi, sadly (in my opinion).
