Habs really do appear to be literally one piece away from being true contenders. And that piece COULD be in the organization already (Hage)! So the only question is: can they find a stop gap to open the window right now? And as crosby as it might sound, a unique siduation just might arise!

So many being indignant about the 2 for 10 PP performance. Listen…it’s not great. And the power play definitely hasn’t been great. But it’s a 20% conversion rate. It’s not the damning stat people are using it as; especially for a PP still experimenting with new personnel.
Might have to bring my Subban jersey to Montreal with me this week and get that nameplate officially changed! What a start for Bolduc!

Yup. I’m very satisfied with the Habs starting the season with the current lineup. If they can make it better? amazing! But there’s no rush. The right move may present itself now, maybe in season, maybe next offseason, or maybe the roster itself provides the solution! Happy to watch it all unfold
For me, it’s crucial the Habs don’t overpay for a 2C when it’s still possible the solution is in house (Dach/Kapanen/Hage). If a fair deal comes around for a sure fire solution, then you take it. But the Habs are in an ideal situation and can still be patient. Not making a misstep is more important
It’s just something the Habs need to consider as there’s a good chance their window will coincide with expansion. It would suck to build around a top 4 D core and then lose a key player when it might make more sense to weight their core in a way that allows them to protect it all
If the Habs protect all 4 of Guhle, Reinbacher, Hutson and Dobson then they’re stuck protecting just 4 forwards. That’s gonna cost them a top talent at fwd. But if they can turn ONE of those D into an equally good fwd, they could protect all of those players PLUS 6 more forwards!
Something nobody talks about: if protection protocol remains same in expansion, having 4 D you want to protect means protecting less skaters (8). Given you could protect 10 skaters if you go 7F/3D, it MIGHT make sense for Habs to trade one of Guhle, Reinbacher or (gasp) Hutson 😬
Seeing Kirby Dach training in Montreal this summer; just feels like he’s ready to FINALLY have his breakout year. Doesn’t hurt that he’ll be motivated playing for a contract. But I think the Dach we see this yr will be the one we thought we were getting 2 seasons ago: pre-Tinordi

Habs finally get their own pajama boy
While I wish him well (ish)…I, for one, am glad we have moved past the Primeau era. To me, he’s a perfect remnant of a time where Habs fandom was constantly overly excited/hopeful about the potential of mediocre prospects.
Two off seasons ago, people were genuinely pondering RHP’s prospects in the Habs top 6. Two years later, he isn’t even qualified. Kinda of emblematic of how far the Habs have come in just 2 years.
