🚨 ACTION ALERT: Oppose SB 74 🚨
Pressure is mounting to move SB 74 — the dangerous “lock up librarians” bill — to the Georgia House floor for a vote as early as Monday, March 16. Now is the time to make your voice heard.
🧵 1/4 ⬇️
“Oppose SB 74 and any criminalization of library personnel in Georgia”
Librarians in Georgia need you! SB 74 could reemerge as early as Monday. Some lawmakers are pushing for a vote, exposing public library and school workers statewide to possible criminal charges. Email your representative and tell them to oppose: secure.ngpvan.com/MFUg3SsZDUuv...
A powerful day bringing together students, educators, and partners committed to expanding access.
Moments like this turn curiosity into direction, and connection into real pathways.
Grateful to everyone who made it possible.

We stand with Dolores ❤️
IDRA has always been proud and honored to call Dolores Huerta a friend. We stand with her and the other survivors and thank them for having the courage to speak out.
🚨Libraries are hubs of learning where all young people deserve access to books that reflect their lives and expand their perspectives. 📚
Bills like SB 74 threaten that mission by criminalizing librarians for doing their jobs. Stand with librarians!

✔️ Call and leave a voicemail sharing that you are a constituent who opposes SB 74
✔️ Verify your district and find contact information through the Georgia General Assembly website

Call to action: Call your Georgia House Representative and tell them to vote NO on SB 74, a library censorship bill to criminalize librarians for sharing books which contain any remotely sexual content.
This could come up for a vote before the full House as soon as tomorrow so call now!

“Investments in quality bilingual programs and programs that benefit low income students must be a critical strategy of these early literacy and early numeracy types of state goals,” — @chloesikes.bsky.social

"The program, which promises $10,000 to qualifying families per student, was championed by Republican Gov. Greg Abbott, Hinojosa’s opponent in the primary. The vouchers are paid for by Texas taxpayers. "
Vouchers are a scam. Just another way for rich people to avoid paying taxes that oh, might benefit their public schools
“Nearly three-quarters of the 152,389 Texas students whose families applied to enroll in the state’s school voucher program already attended private campuses this year,“ #txlege

🚨TODAY, the Georgia House will debate HB 1023, a bill that would require weapons detection systems at school entrances, despite little evidence they make schools safer.
➡️ Use our form to contact your House Rep and urge them to vote NO on HB 1023. #gapol

It's time our lawmakers start focusing on the real issues impacting Georgians' lives and leave scapegoating LGBTQ people in the past!
Mikayla Arciaga with @idraedu.bsky.social is explaining the process of book challenges:
"Our concern is that there are not clear guidelines... we have jumped straight from adding standards of what you want to see to adding criminal penalties... We have time in this session to do our due diligence."
SB 74 is up right now in the Judiciary Non-Civil House Committee. Criminalizing librarians with bills like SB 74 would chill access to constitutionally protected speech, undermine public institutions, and invite costly litigation. #gapol

There is a box with a red heading "Get the facts about vouchers" and the icon of Florida. The text in the box reads: "Florida’s state auditor reported losing track of 30,000 students in its voucher program. The program cost $398 million more than expected by the end of the 2024-25 school year." The bottom of the box has the Texas Center for Voucher Transparency logo. The background is a faded close-up of the Texas Capitol. At the bottom of the image is a purple box with the sources: Lauren Lumpkin in the Washington Post.
Texans can learn from other states what can happen when voucher programs grow without guardrails and adequate oversight: budget deficits, misuse of public funds, and limited improvement in student outcomes.
